Peace Warrior
I can't believe some of the answers we get from people here on this forum.
They have absolutely no idea at all of what's really going on with America's politics and their ignorance is astounding.

Ken C.
I think since Liberal talk shows fail miserably at making any money and Conservative talk show does they want on Conservative talk show so they can either ruin it by argueing and yelling with the host or make money just by being on it.

It scares the sh*t out of me. I'll be damned if I let this country treat its citizens like that. I know that there are others who feel this way.

Liberal Talk Radio like AirAmerica w/ AL Franken is total crap and has been losing money cause no one wants to align themselves with it. Now as an unabashed capitalist, I understand why conservative talk shows work - they make money- period.

As far as fairness goes, why in a capitalist economy would any owner of a talk radio station want to give air time to something that doesn't make money? Furthermore, I can understand fairness in news reporting, but no one has ever claimed that people like Rush Limbaugh are newsmen. So if you don't like what they have to say don't listen. But, don't tell their stations that they have to carry Al Fraken just because it's "fair".

"What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them." --Thomas Jefferson to William Stephens Smith, 1787. ME 6:373, Papers 12:356

There were POWERFUL liberals who poured millions of dollars of financial backing into various left and far left programs, and to no avail. They put people like Franken and Garofalo on the air in hopes of attracting an audience. It was a complete bust. The majority of Americans do not want to sit by their radios and listen to other Americans rant and rave about what a horrible country we are. How we're the cause of ALL the world's problems. And then there's the pandering . . . the spineless, gutless, "look how accepting and understanding I am" pandering. That gets old real, real quick. That stuff might work on a college campus somewhere, but the average American is not buying it. However, I'm going to say that it's the hate that is what brings down left-wing radio. The deep, seething, loathing of this country and their desire to see all traditional values replaced with something more secular.

WALLACE: Let me bring in Senator Feinstein . . .

Do you have a problem with talk radio, and would you consider reviving the fairness doctrine, which would require broadcasters to put on opposing points of view?

FEINSTEIN: Well, in my view, talk radio tends to be one-sided. It also tends to be dwelling in hyperbole. It's explosive. It pushes people to, I think, extreme views without a lot of information.

This is a very complicated bill. It's seven titles. Most people don't know what's in this bill. Therefore, to just have one or two things dramatized and taken out of context, such as the word amnesty — we have a silent amnesty right now, but nobody goes into that. Nobody goes into the flaws of our broken system.

This bill fixes those flaws. Do I think there should be an opportunity on talk radio to present that point of view? Yes, I do, particularly about the critical issues of the day.

WALLACE: So would you revive the fairness doctrine?

FEINSTEIN: Well, I'm looking at it, as a matter of fact, Chris, because I think there ought to be an opportunity to present the other side. And unfortunately, talk radio is overwhelmingly one way.

WALLACE: But the argument would be it's the marketplace, and if liberals want to put on their own talk radio, they can put it on. At this point, they don't seem to be able to find much of a market.

FEINSTEIN: Well, apparently, there have been problems. It is growing. But I do believe in fairness. I remember when there was a fairness doctrine, and I think there was much more serious correct reporting to people.

A) There is no such plan as dozens have told you.

b) Peace warrior is correct. You are the one who has no idea of what is going on because you get all your info from Hanitty and Limbaugfh and believe them them when they fed you BS like "democrats want to shut down talk radio" I doubt you have ever read a real college level book or a real newspaper.

4 corporations own more than 80% of our media outlets.

That never should have been allowed to happen but Republicans don't want open debate or fairness...because they are in the wrong and must keep as many people ignorant as possible in order to maintain power.

That is why the corporate/conservative view is everywhere on radio

99% of what passes for talk radio is aimed at 30% of the people...the corporate sheep........because talk radio is nothing more than corporate propaganda

The dark path started in 1980 and it's a corporate path that chokes off freedom and dissent

The airwaves belong to the people, not the corporations

My question is this......if talk radio is so bad, so filled with hate, etc, etc, why hasn't it gone off the air due to low ratings? Radio is like any other business. Companies advertise on the air, if people aren't listening, the advertising dollars are wasted and the companies move on to another type of advertising. So if the talk shows are "crap" or "lies", why hasn't businesses pulled their advertising dollars?
This is just another attempt for Dems/Libs to silence anyone that doesn't repeat their dribble. If you don't like talk radio, turn the dial or turn the radio off! If I wanted to listen to the Lib side of everything I'd listen to Air America.........whoooops, I'm sorry, so rude of me! Air America FLOPPED! No one wanted to listen to their constant Bush bashing, no one wanted to hear their endless talk , but never really saying anything!
I'd love to hear just once, from a Dem/Lib that has real answers to today's problems. Not go into a rant about what the Repubs have/haven't done, or how much you hate Bush/Cheney, just say what the Dems will do if they are elected into the White House.

Well considering Bush has done more to restrict free speech than anyone else in the history of the United States. We've already started down that path. Free speech zones are the most anti American concept we've seen yet, and that scares me. Not to mention other rights we lost with the patriot act.

Where did you get the idea the Fairness Doctrine would shut down conservative talk radio? The Fairness Doctrine was in effect between 1949 and 1986. There was much more accurate and informative news and much less emotional swaying of the public during those years. People are becoming ignorant bigots. There needs to be some form of rebuttal to the crap these programs put out. They even know their programs are crap or they wouldn't be so worried about it.

Strange very strange. The fairness doctrine should be voted down hopefully. It does screw with our right. Now with that said. Could it be any different the the cons who started a petition to get Rosie off of the view. Shortly after that she disappear. Mind you she said she was leaving on her own accord. Not likely. Just propanganda so the rest who watched the view wouldn't start boycotting the products. It's okay when the cons do it but let a liberal do it then it's not okay??
However I did warn those who were on the ban Rosie boat this would be the outcome.

Conservative radio would only be the start, the Fairness Doctrine could be and eventually would be used to silence any opposing voice.
After today's vote with the President and the Senate showing the contempt they have for the average guy I would not be the least bit surprised. Diane Feinstein basically told every American that wants to remain a country that we are stupid for questioning them and McCain thinks the way to get rid of 12 million illegals is to legalize them.
Washington DC should legalize murder and get their crime stats to drop
REMEMBER
IF VOTING WAS EFFECTIVE IT WOULD BE ILLEGAL

Liberals and conservatives alike should be very concerned about an effort to do this. It would be an example of our government over reaching its power. And once you give the government one of your liberties, they will always come back for more.

"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both."
