My Dad runs a vinyl sign business... Stickers are removed wit a hairdryer to soften sticker and glue.. Peel SLOWLY... Sticky residue should be removed with Iso-Propyl alcohol on a rag (Maplins electronics sell this) used sparingly. Sometimes petrol or white spirit will also work. You may have to T-cut the paint slightly as the bit under the sticker won't have faded the same way as it's surrounds.

If it's on glass or chrome, use a single-edge razor blade and scrape it off then remove any adhesive residue with fingernail polish remover or lighter fluid.
If it's on a painted surface, use a a blow dryer to soften the adhesive, then carefully peel up a corner and s l o w l y pull the sticker up while keeping the blow dryer on it.

I used to use a wide razor blade (with the plastic cover) to remove college parking decals. That and a little Windex. It removes the sticker and the residue without scratching the glass.

best way is use wall paper steamer,, when the steam hits the sticker its easier to peel away and doesnt leave any glue residue, i do it for a living and found this way a lot easier than using all sorts of stuff, which in honesty messes with the paintwork of the car

Laving the car in warm sunshine helps soften them. Or try using a hairdryer on the hot setting. Use WD40 or better, GT85 to remove the glue residue. Be careful of using a metal scraper if it is on a heated rear windscreen, try using your nails to peel them off or a plastic spatula.

wd40 is good but watch out if there are any scratched in the paint - it can lift it off after a while - best to use pepsi or coke - pout it on and leave it if you can - it will dissolve the glue and take the sticker off

If you're left with a gluey residue you can try surgical spirit or meths. If you're in England, you could try Lakeland if they have a shop near you or you have their catalogue - they used to stock something which I think was called Sticky Stuff Remover
