I started noticing my fish in my tank was devolping white spots on them and first thought it was some type of Saltwater disease but come to find out my heater had failed and my water temp went up about 6 degrees and I took it out to check it and it shocked me so I think that was what was causing the white spots. So now I need to buy a new heater and I want a good one that will last, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

I use Visi-Therm deluxe (by Aquarium Products: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/11430/product.web ) on almost all my freshwater and saltwater tanks. I like these because they're completely submersible, and there's a temperature indicator so you can set the temperature you want (no +/- , but actual degrees settings) without guessing. They're pretty accurate, too. You don't say how old your heater was, but most only last around 6-7 years.

The white spots are probably ick. If not reated fast enough, they will all die. Do some research on it.
