God guys are so stupid, and you aren't so bright by believing what a GUY says about a strictly woman condition.
Wearing a pad yes the blood would leak into a pool, by no means turn it red unless you completely bleed out, meaning you lost all of your blood. You can wear a tampon and no worries, you can swim as long as you want or how long the tampon lasts (2-4 hrs depending on its absorbency).

If you aren't wearing a tampon, then yes, that would cause bleed through. A pad is no good either, because it is going to absorb all of the water from the pool and not from your menses. Your best bet is a tampon or a Diva Cup (it's a cup that is worn internally that collects menstrual blood).

You can swim while on your period, just wear a tampon.

If you don't wear a tampon you will have blood running down your leg when you get out of the water.

You can go swimming if you use a tampon.

Swimming without protection isn't a good idea.
