Dell are offering systems quite cheaply at the moment but just take some time to think about your needs.

Laptops are not easily upgraded so you may wish to consider a better processor - you can install more memory and a bigger hdd later.

I'm looking at the Dell Inspiron 6400 as a minimum investment.

The Apple Mac Book is well priced and comes with everything you need in iLife.

I'd prefer to spend the extra money and get a Mac Book Pro ~£1299

If you go to www.dell.co.uk/outlet you will find New computers at reduced prices. This is due to a change in specification, a cancelled order or a scratch on the exterior of the computer. The computers all come with the Full Factory Warranty

As a few have already advised you, go for Dell. I don't care what anyone says to the contrary, you just cannot beat Dell for value for money. The 'Inspiron' range (one of which I'm using at this very moment!) start from as little as £325.

Be careful using online auction sites as you need to have a guarantee with your product. Dell has good 'back-up' and aftercare advice. I'm very happy with my laptop.

You should get a Toshiba laptop. I would highly recommend a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092.
