You learn to deal with the fact that some people do not want to be interviewed.
I have refused to be interviewed by reporters just as a matter of principle.

This is probably going to be part and parcel in your line of work. Persistance is the first key, but buttering people up couldnt hurt either. Find people close to the person you want to interview. Get an inroad that way. If that doesnt work, find out as much as you can about the person. Go to IMbD or the library or wherever you have to-to find something different to ask them about. You'd be surprised how many people will at least give you an ear if you mention something near and dear to their hearts. Good luck.

You have 'freedom of the press'! People also have the right to say no comment! If an interview has been set up, well, then you'll get your story! If not, then you are in the wrong if they refuse, and you persist!
Learn patience!And curtesy!

Just because they don't want an interview doesn't mean you
can't video tape them while they refuse or from a distance.
To make a long story short they would be better off giving one unless they want the public to form their own opinion.

Don't interview them. Some people just need to be put in the spot to let them know how bad their attitude is.
If you really want to interview them though and you have to beat a deadline, just email your questions to them or to their publicist.

You report on their reactions. Thus, if someone is nasty to you, that becomes what you report:
"Mr. X refused to comment on the case but shouted numerous expletives as his car exited the court parking lot."

Do like most people in the press do; make up some phony story about them to force them to come to you!

You can't force someone to speak to you if he or she doesn't want to. All you can do is ask, and if he/she says no, respect that answer. You might hand him/her your business card and say if you change your mind, please call me.
