You are generalizing. I do realize you said "MOST" though... I don't straighten MY hair. I just think we always WANT what we don't HAVE.=)

Black women straightening thier hair to get a job! I mean a good job by a white employer! And get fitted in a successful society.
White don't need to curl up thier hair because they are already white and have it all they want with either a straight hair or permed curly hair.

In my opinion MOST women aren't happy with their natural hair. Those with curls cook it to a crisp with a straightening iron and those with straight hair fry it into straw with repeated perms. Of course they add in a frequent dye job just for a change of color. It is a wonder MOST women aren't bald by now from all the damage they are doing to their hair. Guess we are luicky that it keeps growing and we get new hair to destroy on a regular basis. Or maybe it is all the manufacturers of all those hair products they convince us we need that are the lucky ones (at least the ones making a lot of money off of us)

Perms aren't really in style anymore. I know older women still do it but my contemporarys still use a curling iron to add waves or a straightener to remove the curl. Black women have very curly and coarse hair that can be hard to style.

My white friends curl thier hair for special occasions.
And I've seen them straighten it too.
My black friends curl thier hair every now and then.
And I've seen them straighten it before also.
So what's the question???

My hair is more manageable when straightened.

That would be called a "perm" and we do it all the time. Perhaps you should widen your field of vision a bit?
