Well, it depends on the context. If I'm engaged in consensual adult activities with someone, I prefer to have the lights on to monitor their physical responses and add a visual dimension to the sensuality of the moment.
If I'm reading or doing something that requires fine hand-eye coordination, then I need the lights on.
If I'm walking around, sleeping, watching a film, etc. then I prefer it to be as dark as possible.
