I most likely wouldn't pay just one. I would call the insurance company, explain the problem and go to a monthly payment. Reduce coverage if you have to.
Also I would call my landlord and offer to pay 1/2 the rent if he would cancel the fee since times are hard. Negotiate dear. Never hurts to ask, and don't take no for an answer.
Call your local Community Action or Welfare and see where you could get a helping hand to get on your feet.

I would need more info about how you got into this problem. But I'm going to make a general assessment. I would say pay the rent. It's important to keep your status as a good tenant. My guess is, like for most of us, the car only brings in money if it's for your job or going to school. Otherwise, and let's get to the groundlevel truth, the car is a waste of money. You could take a bus to work. The car is just fascilitating money spending- going out, gas, insurance, taking you places where you spend more money...
If I were you, If I was that tight, I would even consider selling the car. It has way more benefits than drawbacks. Spend less money, more exercise, more time at home, less time getting in trouble. I would also try my hardest to look for a cheaper place to rent until you're in the black again, which is why you have to maintain a good tenant history.

You can work out Something a plan with the Insurance company to pay a certain portion of that insurance so it doesn't cancel on you. You need the insurance for sure.
Secondly go to the apt . manager and ask them if you can pay a certain portion of this till your next paycheck when ever that is and you'll pay the remaing due then as ask them if they would consider this time of waving the late fee. That you don't make it a habit of being late.
then if your that tight on bills get a second job just till you can see the light and have some money put back for those rainy days ahead.

If you are in no danger of being evicted, just have to pay a late fee on the rent, then pay the car insurance. $50.00 late fee is a lot less than the ticket for driving without insurance, and/or the years of paying for damages if, God forbid, you got into an accident while not having insurance.

Depends. Is the car new? If insurance lapses, they can legally take the car. No work = no work = no apartment. The $50 late fee for rent is nothing compared to having to find a different car. If the car is paid off, doesn't matter so much. You could possibly call the insurance company and see if they will defer you a month's payment. It's possible and worth a try.

pay the car insurance cause if you dont then you cant drive and if you cant convince your landlord to give you till the next paycheck then at least you can live in your car until you can afford a place again.
But if you pay rent then you can no longer drive to work - not legally anyway and so you have a place to live but that wont last long - cause you wont be getting any more paychecks anytime soon by not making it to work.

You pay the rent. Housing is always more important. And if your ins gets canceled...well then don't drive until you get paid again. That can be fixed a lot easier than getting kicked out.

i'd pay the car insurance.. cause you need that to be able to drive.. otherwise you'll end up with a fine much more than the 50 late fee..
and if you need your car to get to work.. than that is a must
i'm sure if you call and explain to your landlord he'll help you out

Rent....gotta have a place to live. Plus if my ins. got cancelled I would try to figure out a ride back and forth to work until I could get insurance back.

Car insurance. Your car gets you to work to make more $. It can also temporarily sub as shelter if you get evicted. Try to put an ad for a roommate to split your rent & living expenses. you can do so at www.craigslist.com
