I think most people who do not have a will think that the answer to what will happen after they die will be sensible and will follow their wishes. In real life it does not happen that way because the state will follow its own rules. That means your money could go to someone in your family you have always hated and your kids could be sent off t some foster home or even to that same hated relative.

Also a lot of people think they don't have enough assets to make a will necessary but again that is unrealistic in most cases. Even things of little monetary value that have great sentimental value will not end up where you would have selected just from not having stated your selection. There go the family photos into the dumpster and your mother's antique wedding ring to the garage sale.

I don't but I need to. I have two kids and I need to make sure they have good care when we die and that the grandparents are not fighting over them. I also want to make sure I am not kept alive on life machines for years and years.

Yes, my husband and I both had one drawn up when our first son was a baby. Once we had a child we felt it was important to have a legal document stating our wishes if something were to happen to one of us or both of us. We wanted to name legal guardians for our son (now for both our children)...and not leave things to chance.
