I have a printer that has a IEEE 1284 parallel cable but my new laptop does not have a parallel port. Is there an adapter than can convert my parallel cable to a USB cable so I can hook up my printer?

Yes, I recently bought one for about $10. I believe it's a Belkin brand, but I see Belkin wants about $40 for it. Needless to say, you can find that discounted.

Belkin Part # F5U002v1

Do a google on it. I got over 300,000 hits. Seems it's quite common and relatively inexpensive.

I just entered:
IEEE 1284 parallel cable to a USB
into the search window....
