I love living by the ocean. I live about 8 blocks from the beach in San Diego in the community of Pacific Beach.

Pacific Beach (PB) is such a great community for people in their 20's to live in. IT's small and compact so you can walk or ride beach cruiser everywhere. So many people ride their beach cruisers around here and it's the best way to get around. The nightlife is great here too, tons of bars and clubs along Garnett Ave in PB. And since San Diego is the only place that allows alcohol on the sand at some of it's beaches, including PB, in CA there is always a party going on there, especially during summer. Me and my friends love taking our beer pong table down to the beach and just posting up and we are definately not the only ones that do that. At least 50,000 people pack Pacific and Misision beaches on summer weekends and during events like 4th of July over 250,000 people can easily be at the beach here. We do get a lot of tourists by they are all cool and I like meeting new people from all over the country. And most people in SD are transplants like me and are from somewhere else, so it's always nice meeting people from all over.

We have the warmest water on the west coast and best weather outside of hawaii. The weather here is so nice; usually stays between 65 degrees during the day in winter and around 75-80 in the day during summer. It's never too hot or too cold by the ocean and it only rains in winter and doesn't even rain that much. I have never experianced a bad storm or anything remotely close to a hurricane, SD weather is very tame and boring but very nice so you can't really complain. It's not humid like the east or south but isn't bone dry either, it has the perfect amount of humidity and there is always a nice ocean breeze. The water is only warm enough to swim in here from late May to October usually, I usually won't go in water below 66 degrees. During the summer the water around here is usually somewhere around 70, which is really nice and refreshing. But if you have a wet suit you can be in the water anytime of the year here. Southern CA is the only place on the west coast that has water warm enough to swim in w/o a wetsuit.

SD has such a great beach culture and scene too. Even 40year old professionals wear board shorts, flip flops and ride around on beach cruisers here. People here are so friendly and laid back and not pretentious at all. There are parts of the beach here that are like a giant party on weekends with people standing shoulder to shoulder and all the people are so loud together you can barely here the ocean. Beer bongs, beer pong, flip cup, ect.. you will see it all at the beach here. And the WOMEN are amazing, so many hot chicks running around in skimpy bikinis all summer long.

And the swimming in the ocean just feels so nice and theraputic in a way. And it's great just smelling and feeling the ocean air around you, feels so nice and refreshing. I work about 30 miles north of PB and traffic can get bad heading home so I just go to the closest beach by my work and wait out the traffic, it's great. And even when I do sit in traffic along I-5 I have a view of the ocean to the right of me. San Diego also has some great spots on cliffs towering 300 feet straight up from the shoreline.

Over the past weekend I saw dolphins here for the first time. Everyone I know has seen them down here but this was the first i have. They were jumping really high out of the water and playing with each other, it was one of the coolest things i've seen at the beach down here. Also the snorkeling is good and you can see tons of stingrays and leapard sharks(which are harmless).

I know I wrote a lot but I seriously love livin by the beach here. SD has such a great year round beach culture and scene.

I'm near Charelston, SC about 10-15 mins from the beach by car but I live on a river that feeds into the ocean, so by boat it's 5 minutes. I love it. I absolutely love it. I've been in this house since early 1999. Hurricane Floyd caused some damage in the Fall of '99 and we've had one other hurricane scare since (95, maybe, not sure) but no real damage from it. The last major storm to hit here was Hugo in 1989.

Live near monterey California and the water is really cold, and once you get used to it, you only have some 20 minutes before you get hypothermia, so you need wetsuits. My friends and I have beach bonfires about once a month or so, so that is lots of fun, but we usually don't go in the water. Skimboarding and surfing and boogie boarding are fun once you get over the coldness. No bad storms here.

I live on the Pacific Ocean, so it's not as much of a luxury. It's nice to beachwalk and look at the creatures, but going swimming in it... well, to keep it simple... it's FREEZING COLD! I live extremely close to the beach, and there have never been any storms related to the ocean.
