It seems people are saying 'you have to respect' what he did. So just because he was a gifted athlete, we should mourn him? Should we also comfort O.J. who happens to be one of the greatest rushers of all time. Someone also brought up the BTK murderer, should we excuse his murder because it took forever for him to get caught? Should we excuse the 9/11 attacks because a handful of terrist 'bravely' gave their lives to kill many innocents? In our sad country, have we sunk so low to praise a man for murder just because he was a gifted wrestler?

This is the best question on this topic that I have read. You are right on. I think the problem is that people are so desperate for heroes that they will overlook the truth in order to hang onto their false reality. In a way, the way people on here stand up for Benoit is like a mental illness. It is illogical and sick, but many of them simply are unable to see past that tv screen where he entertained them for so long. The image is not the reality, but faced with reality, many will choose the image. It is really sad.

Everyone is showing sympathy for Chris Benoit because he was a famous person. In my opinion, it is wrong to support this kind of madness. I watched that WWE special last night, and every wrestler interviewed said, "Chris Benoit had a private life", and also "Chris was a great man, and I love him"... Why would these people like him for killing a 7 year old boy who most likely had nothing to do with Chris Benoit when he killed his wife?
Now to my point, the WWE is trying to keep Benoit's murders secret from the fans, so WWE can fool the weak minded, that Chris died to natural causes, not from suicide. That is why Chris is getting so much sympathy.... because the WWE is hiding the reason of death. As of 2pm on wwe.com, all they said was,"the death was a double murder-suicide". the average fan would most likely say, "ouch...poor chris.", but if they put on the real story, "chris benoit reportedly strangled wife, smothered son, then hung himself...", the average wrestling fan would say "what happened to him? he's a monster!". So, wrestling abilities should not excuse murder and i hope the WWE realize that, and tell the whole story.

...They're not praising him for murdering his wife and child for gods' sake. That would be the dumbest thing I've ever heard, yet it does happen in gangs and whatnot. They're praising him for his ability, yes, whether he kills anyone or not doesn't change the fact that he was skilled. Should he be idolized as a person? Of course not. But that doesn't mean he wasn't good at what he did. If you say that he was a bad wrestler because he killed his family, you're just ignorant.

Is he a bad person for doing it? Absolutely. But doing something that's wrong doesn't change past facts my friend.

No, No, No and No....

Regardless of who you are, how much money you have, etc. everyone should be held to the same human standard. In my opinion murder (not self-defense) is not excusable at ANY time.

I think it's wrong to kill anyone regardless who are, especially your own wife and child.

With these idiots it does. If it were a black man that did it they would be screaming how typical it is.
