What is the point of getting to be a top contributor?

It is a temporary rush of recognition that someone cares what you are saying on topics that you care about.

However it can get away as fast as it came. I was a top contributor in two fields. But for the last two weeks I had to dedicate most of my time to working on a rush project. When I finally finished yesterday I went back to my computer and found that I was back among the mere mortals on Yahoo. That was a fast descent from the Top.

So don't let that status go to your head.

Actually, there's NO point. It's not like we get anything, not even a discount coupon for fast food!

Truly, I've had people write mean things about me just because I'm a TC, asking if I have a life or if I think I know it all. We're just people. I just happened to have a strategy that paid off, I answer almost all my questions in one category and it worked. I got my badge when I hit level 3 and I've managed to keep it so far.

I've thought of giving it back. In fact, I was surprised it was still here when I logged in tonight because I haven't been online in 2 weeks and hadn't answered a solitary question in 2 weeks.
