BESIDES the savings on commissions. Why else would you sell by yourself?

For those of you that have been successful..... How long did it take and how much money did it cost you for advertising and supplies? For those that weren't successful.... How long before you hired a Realtor and how much money did you lose trying to sell on your own?

People tell me that they are unwilling to pay a REALTOR a 6%-8% commission for doing something that they can do as well as a REALTOR. As a REALTOR I not only respect their point of view but also the commitment of time, energy and money that it takes to sell a house. With that said, let me share some statistics. 80% of people that try to sell their home by owner eventually hire a REALTOR. Homes sold by REALTORS net more to the seller than homes sold by owner. ( YES EVEN AFTER PAYING COMMISSION ). REALTORS prequalify potential buyers so that when someone enters your home they are ready, willing and able to buy. Because REALTORS are in the business of selling houses they know how to prepare, stage, price and advertise houses to get the maximum net in the shortest time.

No I guess it's because I'm a Real Estate agent. I know it can really be challenging. You really need to know how much it's really worth. I couldn't dream of selling my house too cheap. If a house sold in less than a week I would be afraid it was too cheap. Make an agent work hard. That's why we get paid. If it stays on the market 4 months and hasn't sold reduce the price a little. A house is an investment that people pay entirely too much to lose. I need my money, times are hard. Get all you can. My daughter was gonna sell her house and I told her it was worth much more. She sold it for more than she was going to. She got several thousand more than what she originally wanted. It stayed on the market less than 6 months; thats about right.

On a $500,000 home, the typical commission payable is $13,000. How long does it take an average person to earn $13,000? In a hot real estate market, it takes a Realtor a few hours to a few days to sell a house. It may take them just a few hours to complete the deal.

If you think $13,000 is a lot of money, it worth the time and effort to sell it yourself.

On "Property Ladder", the host says that studies show that houses that are sold For Sale By Owner generally bring in 10-15% less than houses sold by realtors.

The key reason is to save the money you would otherwise pay in commission. I am a REALTOR and I support FSBO listings. I realize that people need to save money, and if they are willing to pay me as a buyers agent, I will bring them buyers. I am also willing to help them get their paperwork straight so that everything is in order when we go to close. They are grateful for my extra effort and it gets me referrals.

I am doing that right now and i'm selling it as is. It was so easy. I just told people i was selling it and since i live in such a little town i just answered the phone when people called.

I think i'd probably sell anything by myself except jewelry.

You will save lots of money. I sold mine in 1 month back in the 1980;s. The real estate market is flat right now.

Loaded question... you seem to be looking only for pro-real estate agent answers. The fact that you used the copyrighted word Realtor, and capitaized it, tells me you probably are one.

Yesterday I talked with a home owner who was FSBO, then went with a limited service agency and is now back to FSBO.

He's been at it a year so far........
