I've heard it said a LONG time ago that white smoke is okay, but blue smoke is a bad sign. But no one likes smoke coming from exhaust.
You haven't said how old or new car is. If older, then rings might be going bad. If it's a light bit of smoke, there are some oil additives which help to stop up such light leakage with no problem to motor. A lot of white smoke, you need to check with mechanic, depending if motor is running poorly. Check out Walmart Auto for the oil additives.

If it happens just after you have started from cold ,don't worry it is just condensation in the exhaust, it goes away when the engine is warm. If it happens all the time it could be a leakimg head gasket although you say it drives ok.Check the rocker cover for sludge and check the oil and water levels after a run.

Whether it is petrol or diesel white smoke usually indicates water, and that usually comes from a cylinder head leak, damaged gasket or cracked liners. Normally the coolant level will indicate this, it will need topping up often.Blue smoke=oil white =water, and sometimes on a diesel it means the injectors need seeing to.Sorry but it does sound expensive.

white smoke must be steam check your water level cosif low or empty means your headgasket has gone and driving it around will do two things 1 cook you valve stem oil seals because of overheating which will crack and oil will seep into combustion chamber changing smoke to blue 2 warp and pit your cylinder head costing lots and lots and lots dude get it checked out before you need a new engine sorry to be the bearer of bad news

You better check your vehicle. It seems to me that the fuel is not burning properly.
