It's entirely up to you.

Depends on whether he has a habit of not coming to work and if he is a good employee. I mean, you can find out if the trains are really not running but how can you prove he's really in Doncaster? If this is the first time he's done something like this, I would give him a break.

You don't say where he has to get to.I find it hard to believe that you don't know how difficult it is to get round in South Yorkshire. The other thing is people are being asked not to try to get into Sheffield or Rotherham unless their journey is necessary.Local radio actually said a few hours ago that whereas the situation in Sheffield was improving it was actually getting worse in Doncaster.

Since you have internet access why don't you verify his excuse? Don't you have highway and public transportation info in England? If it turns out to be false, then weigh the "incident" against his overall record. Multiple infractions, time to go, first timer, then just a slap on the wrist will do.

Give him the benefit. There's a reservoir about to burst and destroy Sheffield! What better excuse do you need to hear?

why dont you check it out first? see if he could be possibly telling you the truth. Depending on how many absences he's already had then I suppose you could warn him etc anyway but if he's done nothin wrong why would you want to?
