Short ones are fine as long as they answer the question. What really bugs me are the people who just comment on the question and not really answer it.

short's nice.

but the really long ones that take up half your life to read make it harder and harder to decipher the actual answer and eventually you get very confused and yet still flattered that someone would actually take time out of their day to write a long and detailed answer to a simple question that would have only needed a couple of well chosen words to answer to your satisfaction.

i do like short answers that are too the point but if the long drawn out answer is interesting i do not mind

Precise is more important than short or long. If it is precise then it is truth with no room for misunderstanding, and that is the point of an answer...right?

Usually short. I know mine can be a little long, but the answer is worthless unless you know more details.
