to show what really happened...in the religous stories...most people sugar coat them yet they were actually very grusome times and i think mel gibson did an excellent job portraying such stories as the passion and apocolypto

I'm sure he figures it invokes more of an emotional reaction from viewers. Many of his films depict historical events, and has chosen some which involve nation building and defending, which require massive battles. Battles actually serve as great time filler for movie makers - they don't have to worry about dialogue much other than screams and grunts!

I generally avoid his creations -- I don't think he's terribly gifted, and only marginally more engaging than that walking pile of bland white bread known as Kevin Costner, whose film stardom is surely the work of a contract with the devil.

I agree SHARKATTACK22... I own "Last Samurai", That is a true story, a complete re-enactment of what truely happened. Even the Hystory Channel congratulated it. That movie was extreamly brutal. So its hystory, its Present, and its Future. ITs human nature.

most of the violence in his films aren't there just to stun and amaze, but rather to show the truth of the moment...

like when danny glover shoots the diplomat in leathal weapon two... that's what a dying diplomat would look like.

cause the world is a violent place that is usually sugar coated by the media, we see horror movies & expect gore but when we see a historical film like brave heart, apocalypto, passion of christ, we dont expect that but its real this brutality really did occur & i love those movies
