I read it and absolutely loved it. It is a great book, and a quick read. I'm sure you'll like it too.

I'm surprised that schools will allow you to read it, let alone require it. It might be a bit heavy going at first.

I would suggest you find a copy of Ayn Rand's short novel "Anthem", and read that first. It's not as long or dark as Huxley, but it might be a good quick read to ramp up to the subject. It might also be a good reference should you have an essay test.

Where Huxley leaves you to figure out what's missing in the "perfect" society, Rand pretty much spells it out in a single word.

Brave New World portrays a futuristic society in which the individual is sacrificed for the state, science is used to control and subjugate, and all forms of art and history are outlawed. From Shmoop

I loved Brave New World. It's a very good choice. It's interesting and intriguing and a little bit scary if you live in the US because it's close to the way society actually is.

Good Luck.

Oh I LOVE BNW!

I was kind of disappointed when we didn't read it in y AP Lit class but my teacher was excused because in BNW's place we read Dante's Inferno.

Anyway, BNW is a great sci-fi (yeah in a sense it is sci fi) that like all great sci-fi makes great commentary on the world that we live in today despire being written decades before our time.

I really enjoyed it because it made me think. Artistically, it's not great literature, but well worth reading for its ideas, which are relevant even today. In some ways, maybe even more so.

I did read that, but it was a long time ago. I do remember that it wasn't one of my favorites, but it wasn't on my list of worst books either. You shouldn't have any trouble with it. Good luck with your class!

Highly recommended. Not only well written and very creative, and interesting; but, also a glimpse at our probable future if the bush crime family and its friends fulfill their NWO agenda, unfortunately.

I tried to many years ago, but had even less success than with 1984.
