I'm going through a divorce and I was wondering if I can take legal action against my future wife for marriage entrapment. She married me on the notion that she would be invested in the marriage and that it wasn't just about having a wedding. Shortly after returning from our honeymoon she completely cut me off from every part of her life and that lasted for eight months until we refinanced our house and got some equity. For about 4 months she seemed invested, until the money ran out. I found out she had been seeing someone so I filed for divorce. And she has the nerve to tell me, she didn't want to get divorced, that it was my idea (she's manupulititave). Anyway, can I sue her for alimony or something based on the fact that she wanted to lock me into a marriage while she did whatever she wanted to do. She knows I've been divorced once and didn't want to go through another one. And no...I don't know why I married her. Love is blind I suppose.

You can file for alimony if she makes more money than you do. Alimony isnt for revenge, its to help the spouse who earns less money survive.

The best revenge is living your life better without her.

Wow, is this ever a clear cut case of "one side of the story".

You're branding her as a gold digger.

I'll bet she's got a similar story and a similar name for you. Interesting you'd use the word "invested" rather than "committed". That's a red flag from my point of view.

You didn't mention what you did on the honeymoon that led to you being cut off. It was huge, that's for sure.

You weren't coerced to the altar. You weren't tricked. Those are grounds for an annullment.

If she provided a lavish lifestyle for you, makes more money than you do or has a trust fund, you might be able to get alimony.

Otherwise? Otherwise you're divorced again and need to figure out two things before you get involved again.
1) your money/love issues
2) how to take responsibility for yourself and your own actions.

oh make that three

3) whatever it was that you did on the honeymoon. It was a dealbreaker, so it had to be pretty awful.

The laws are different from state to state. No matter what though I say RUN........ and stop getting married.Take the time to get to know someone before getting married. Sometimes this could take awhile. It's worth it though.

ALL marriages are entrapment for guys. I was a wedding videographer for over 10 years and I saw a lot of guys who were basically dear in the headlights. I could see it in their eyes that they had no clue how much misery they were in for. Most of the couples have broken up since. Marriage sucks and should be outlawed. If women need to be married, let them marry each other.

Depends. Talk to your lawyer about this - each state is its own entity with its own laws.

but the best revenge is living a happy life.

You can't do that without forgiving - forgive her for being dishonest - and forgive yourself for being foolish.

There was a woman who found a half frozen snake on the ground. She brought it inside - and held it close to her body to warm it up. The snake bit her and as she lay dying she asked the snake "I saved your life! Why did you do this?" The snake replied, "You knew I was a snake when you picked me up and brought me inside."

You can't sue, because it happens to most men. Just take your licken like a man, and learn from it. A real woman will put her heart and soul into the marriage.
