She wouldn't have been able to survive coming through the atmosphere at high velocity without the protection of an intact Space Shuttle. Since the Space Shuttle broke up on reentry into Earth's atmosphere, she would not have been able to survive all the way back to Earth.
I'm glad she was able to experience a spaceflight, her life's dream, before she died. Many people die before reaching their goals. So sad.

In the Columbia tragedy. Most likely she died of asphysiation as the cabin and her suit ruptured from the rapid and sever change in pressure and the subsequent pressure differential. Her lungs would have collapsed as the air immediatley vented. If she had oxygen, she probably burnt up re-entering the atmosphere just like any other object.

No, unfortunately, her mortal remains would have burned up in the fiery re-entry of the doomed STS-107.
