June IS Gay Pride Month... always HAS been.

2007-06-26 08:35:55 · update #1

Wide Awake - you need to wake up... June was even recognized as gay pride month via a Presidential declaration in the United States... but gays recognized it as pride month since Stonewall long before.
IT IS GAY PRIDE MONTH... no question about it.

Rabble, you were correct in stating that June was the official month for recognizing gays and lesbians in the U.S. (officially since 1999, by then President Clinton). Today, the month encompasses all sexual minorities, including bisexuals and transgenders.

I did not connect your answer to that fact right away though (even though I only recently read an article about the month at work). I would say the average reader did not get the gist of your answer until further down in your message. The five or so who gave you a thumbs down might not have continued reading that far into your answer.

People give thumbs down for all kinds of reasons -- in any forum. I take notice of thumbs down to my answers but not to the extent anymore that I let it bother me. All kinds of people, in all kinds of moods enter this forum and others in YA.

This is the first time I read your answer, and I, for one, would not have given you a thumbs down. I understand the historical and cultural perspective of your answer, but I don't think the five who gave you a thumbs down did -- and I don't believe they read your full answer.

You didn't get the most thumbs down. I just looked and another person got six. Thumbs down don't really mean anything, anyway! You have a right to be who you are, but no matter who or what you are, there are going to be those who think they are better than you, and don't like you because you are different. Some very small minded people are afraid of people who are different from them, because they can't handle what they don't understand, and they think that their way to be, is the only right way to be. When it comes to thumbs down you should just consider the source, and not let it bother you. I gave you a thumbs up, by the way! *sm*

No, Dearest, June is Dairy Month here in Wisconsin, not that I mind sharing the month with Gay Pride! Pride and Chocolate milk go great together! Build strong bones while marching for our rights!
Just because you think it should be always doesn't mean it *has* been. As for the thumb's down, it's just someone disagreeing with you, that's all. They have the right to do so. You're a big boy, you can deal with it in an adult manner.
Show them that you are an adult by dealing with it like an adult.

People are cruel. I answered a question right once and got a ton of thumbs down, too. Go figure.

The part about Christmas and Black History month was that during those times, Yahoo and everything else starts "promoting" those things. The question was why has Yahoo started "promoting" gay stuff. The point was, that it was that time of year.

They didn't get the point you were trying to make there. That's why the question in the first place to which you answered.

And by the way, you are never "stuck" being a gay man, as long as you know it is not a choice, it is not even about a lifestyle. It is about living with the freedom to be who you are, and not as some subhuman being with less rights or dignity for preferring members of your own gender to lead a life with.

Various places and countries celebrate Pride at different times of the year.
Granted for most of the US, Pride month is June due to Stonewall. However, one cannot make such a blanket statement for the entire country.
I know in my area, Oakland celebrates Pride later in the summer - August, I think . . . .

Hey there Rabble, but you also got the most thumbs up, no ?

That's the thing with stronger opinions, they don't walk the safer middle ground, and the reactions are as such.

Good that you post them. This should not be a popularity contest. Just honest opinions. It's a bit our superficial nature to want to want a thumbs up.

(Can I get one, please please ;))

YES, JUNE IS. STONEWALL WAS JUST AWFUL, I WAS REALLY YOUNG, BUT THE IMAGES STICK WITH ME LIKE VIETNAM, SON OF SAM, THE BLACK-OUT, 911...ETC. YOU MUST REMEMBER THE OLD SAYING: YOU KNOW WHAT OPINIONS ARE LIKE?..........@$$HOLES, EVERYONE'S GOT 1. ALSO, LETS TRY TO REMEMBER OTHERS WHO ARE TRYING TO "ABOLISH" FREEDOM OF SPEECH. KEEP ON BEING THE GROOVY KOOL KAT, STICK TO YOUR CONVICTIONS!
