How do you guys still care.

Well I started reading them when i was 9 and I really enjoyed them, they get darker as they keep going, people just like having something to rave about.
I think people like them because of the fact that we never truely know that there isn't some type of school like that out there, and the books create such a great image in our heads, personally I like the books a great deal better than the films, they are making sucha big deal over 'the kiss" when in the book harry hated it because it was akward and awful and in the film they make it seen like some masterpeice.
But other than that, they are really great books.
But the films are alright.
Mostly girls like it because of Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe, personally neither one is all that cute, but some people think differently.

Harry Potter isn't the only type of entertainment that has had hype, and explaining it is just like explaining why so many people like Star Wars or Anime or a certain movie star.

Harry Potter obviously hits people at a deeper level than just pure entertainment... there is something special about a boy who lived 11 years of his life not knowing that he was able to do magic, and who has been famous his whole life for surviving a Killing Curse from the most powerful wizard ever.

Everyone yearns for special powers that they don't know about, or worldwide fame and recognition. It's easy to imagine yourself in Harry's position. He makes the same mistakes and assumptions that anyone could make. He's not exceptional or brilliant. Most of the time he's got only himself and his own bravery to rely on, and often gets help from others.

Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's the best... there are hundreds of other stories that have a more elaborate fantasy world or better writing. There is always an unknown factor when it comes to why things become popular.

People like them because they're good. And you don't know because you haven't read the books. Maybe you should have some proof before you post this. Exactly why are they crappy?

have you even read the books or seen the movies? they're amazing books and great movies, don't call things (especially harry potter) crappy unless you've seen/read the books/ movies.

I didn't understand the hype either, till I actually read the books years later, now I fully understand it. If you really want to know, read them.
