I am not religious in the sense that you are probably thinking, but I do believe in God. I did, at one point in my life, have no faith whatsoever. It was intensely annoying to me then and it is still intensely annoying to me now. Here is why: it is judemental and self-serving. Telling someone that they should believe in God and if they don't (threat) they will go to hell is judgemental. It assumes that the stranger is on a lower level than the crusader who now looks like an idiot for assuming that every unknown individual is in need of his "help." The crusader thinks that he is "doing the Lord's work" by "spreading the Good News." Jesus showed people by telling stories - he did NOT preach at them. It is a lesson that many Christians need to learn.
Try your best not to get mad at them. Chances are that you do have some religious background, and I can guarantee you that there is a spiritual side to your nature. I have found that when faced with the crusader, even now, some good responses include:
"Why, thank you!"
"Oh, you are hilarious!"
"For a moment there I thought you were kidding."
"What would make you say something like that?"
"I'll take that into consideration."
"That's interesting. I never saw it/ thought about it that way."

In fact all of those statements are good when dealing with a rude or offensive individual. It either throws them off guard or mildly puts them in their place.
Best of luck to you!

The arrogance some (not all) believers use trying to "redeem" me, annoys me, not the intent itself. Some believers are really good people, whose intentions are good, and I do respect them; some others insteaed, are full of arrogance and think they're superior to everyone who doesn't share their same views, and those are the ones I really dislike. Good believers are those whose eyes can see the good in a person's heart no matter what that person's beliefs/non-beliefs are. And I have many close friends among them. All those who claim to be believers but know no tolerance at all since their eyes are shut, are just people I sincerely pity because their hearts are poor and shallow.

Tectonically people are convinced I'm Buddhist since I'm from Asia (which I'm not Buddhist) so they don't try to convert me. But I wouldn't get mad, I would just walk away quietly or slam the door in their face.

Yes. Maybe not everyone wants to have a set religion so when people try to convert them, it's like everyone is trying to shove their beliefs down their throats.

Yes, I do. How would religious ppl like it if I went knocking from door to door trying to convert them into agnostics? stuff like that really gets to me.

If you mean they try and manipulate or otherwise coerce you into converting - yes. If you mean having an intelligent, respectful discussion about things like God or the meaning of life, then no.

OMG YES. I had a friend who was very religious. One day I gently tried to ask her not to bug me about coming to church w/ her, etc., and she said "I just don't want you to burn in hell for all eternity." That pretty much ruined the friendship. FYI she's had 2 abortions since, so if she's right we'll be tanning together!

No. Here is why. people have the right to believe in any faith the choose. Just like you have the right to believe in not being religous. However you should respect peopels beliefs even though thye may not be your own. I would just kindly ask them to stop and tell tehm you respect there beliefs but its not for you .
