Ive started a campaign for heating allowances for disabled/ terminally ill people. It is to try and convince the Government to extend the winter fuel allowances that the elderly currently get to people with disabilities or illnesses.
So far I have paid for everything myself, and I am no longer working (since feb this year) due to Ill health. The website itself is cheap, but the stationary aspects of it is creeping up and I seriously need sponsorship or help with advertising or printing etc.
Several Charities are standing by my side, and I' m doing all this from home.
You can find the site at : http://www.fightforheating.com/
I have also petitioned the PRIME MINISTER you can find it at : http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/fightforheating/
If you are , or have a friend/family member or loved one who is disabled, please sign the petition if you agree.
If anybody can help at all, please use the contact us link on my website.
Thank You Very Much For Reading This

I campaigned for disabled access in Northern Alberta (Canada) and for a Northern Living Allowance for people living above a certain parallel because heating and food cost so much.
I took it to the MP in our area after I had a lot of signatures, and horray we got it all !
The thing to do is find a politician who will be sympathetic to your cause. You can even start at the municipal level, and work your way up front there. Or go straight to the top of the heap and start contacting MP's all across the country.
If you email them state specifically in your email "I am asking you to assist me with this" because if you dont ask they wont do it - I was told that by our Premiers office.
You cant just email or contact them and say "this is whats happening, this is what should be done", you gotta ASK for their assistance.
Contact the media - tell them you are going to be such and such a street corner asking for signatures for your petition at a certain time, ask them to do a blurb on it for you. God willing it will be a slow news day. Have someone who is poor and disabled bring out some cute kids - yah I know, its pandering to the masses but it works.
Stage a sit-in on the lawn of the Parliament Bldgs.
Issue a challenge via the media for the MP's and PM to live just one day without using any electricity or gas.
Contact all the labour organizations and union offices and get them behind you, ask those who have newsletters to write about your petition - have stats ready - know your stuff. Do the research.
Good for you ! and GOOD LUCK!

Firstly, can I just say best of luck with your campaign, I've signed the petition and am behind you 100% with this.
Secondly - Cavorim, you seem to excel in insensitive answers. You clearly don't know what you are talking about, presumably because you haven't ever been in this position. Many disabled people are living on the same (or less) than an old age pension - so yes, heating bills ARE a struggle when you can't work.
Being on benefits does NOT mean bills are taken into account - do you suppose that last year, when gas and electricity prices went through the roof, benefits went up too?! No they did not. Even those who are disabled who can and do work, struggle. It isn't offensive in the least.

Thank you Muffassa for pointing this out. I would urge other answerers not to de-rate this question as although it is not strictly in line with Yahoo Answers policy, it is absolutely relevant. Many disabled people (diabetics for example) feel the cold. We are lucky to live on an estate where there is a hot water combined heat and power scheme and the heating is unmetered. Not FREE, we pay a fixed weekly fee. I have signed the petition with pride.

Sorry but can't see why disabled people should get free heat. Plenty of disabled people work so they can pay their own bills. If they receive benefits then the cost of heating is no doubt taken into account and they will have to budget like everyone else. This just assumes that all disabled people are dependent which I think is pretty offensive. Likewise with the terminally ill - are you assuming that everyone who discovers they have a terminal illness is absolutely penniless?
