Hi,
I replaced my motor coupler a few weeks ago and since then I've washed about 5 loads of clothing. Well yesterday, the washer stop agitating and spinning again. It doesn't make that awful loud buzzing noise like it did the first time when the motor coupler broke, so I'm wondering now if it's something else that broke. I can hear the motor running, I just haven't taken it apart yet to see if it's the coupler again. Any other causes for the washer not agitating or spinning? I HOPE it's the motor coupler again cuz that's a cheap fix, but since it's not making that buzzing humming noise like the first time it broke, I"m afraid it might be something else :(

I did buy a heavy duty coupler with the metal ring inside :( I'll have to pull it apart when i get home tonight to see if it's broken then...

Fly dragon is correct. Check this when you pull the motor. Check the plate that's bolted to the gearcase front. Made sure the 2 bolts are tight and that the plate is not cracked. Make sure the couplings are flush with the motor and gearcase shafts. If the shaft protrudes even a little past the shafts, it's on too far. All the couplers have the metal sleeve now. I have yet to replace the new style since introduced 1 year ago. It will not make the noise if the three pins are broken. The noise will occur only if the hub is split.

Since you can hear the motor running, the lid safety switch or the actuator is OK; (a frequent cause of no agitation/spin).

My guess is the one of the couplers is busted again, I have rarely seen these break unless something happened that put a lot of extra force on the drive train, such as; the machine was over loaded, way off balance during transition into hyper-spin, didn't pump out completely before going into hyper-spin, or there is a problem in the transmission. Some times when there is a lot of stuff like heavy bedspreads, towels etc which hold a lot of water after pump out will do it also. These machines switch between wash & hyper-spin by changing the motor rotation. When you put the new coupler on, before replacing the motor/pump, try a quick experiment to see if the transmission is messed up; spin the coupler on the transmission by hand; one direction it should make the agitator work, but of course, it will operate very slowly, but it should be able to be rotated fairly easily; the other direction it should make the tub spin. You will need to rotate it numerous turns before it switches over from one function to the other because it is actually engaging/dis-engaging some parts in the transmission, so don't panic if it seems "dead" in between modes. Once it engages into hyper spin mode, it will become much harder to turn the coupling because of the different gear ratio; but the inner tub should rotate. If you notice that either function doesn't work, the coupling jams solid, or there are strange noises, there is likely to be a problem with the transmission. I hope this is of use to you : )

The coupling is broken again. Replace it with a heavy duty one and when you reinstall it, make sure to seat it all the way
on the transmission shaft and the motor shaft or it could burn
out the motor, like right now. See http://appliancequickfix.com/

The pump seal has been leaking slightly. That is the only reason for the motor shaft to rust. It will probably leak worse after pulling on it. Plan on getting a pump when you go after coupling. Be sure to remove the rust.(use a fine file & finish up with sandpaper) The new pump should slide on without forcing it.
