I'm not sure I swing right or left anymore. Iwill maybe look at the people in power and what they are in fact doing and decide if they are moving in a direction I can support. If they are not giving me the answers I want and not giving good reasons for the answers they give, then I am looking to go in a different direction.
As I see it, How we deal with the country's affairs both domestic and foreign are what I concentrate on. There are good ideas and bad ideas on either side of the aisle. I attempt to support those who have good ideas and work against those who do not.

Abortion, gay marriages, affirmative action (reverse discrimination), big government etc... all made me swing to the conservative right.

I've always been a moderate/independent but have considered myself a libertarian the last several years.
It wasn't any one issue. It was ALL the issues. I'm all for strict adherence to the US Constitution, personal liberty, right to privacy, etc. It all comes down to freedom and liberty.
I'm for tax cuts and small government. Is it because I am a Republican? No. It's because I'm a libertarian and I know the founding fathers were adamantly against the size of federal government we have today.
I'm for gay marriage, pro-choice, against gun control, etc. Is that because I'm a Democrat? No. It's because I'm a libertarian and so I am pro-choice on EVERYTHING.

Safety, security, and defense. The liberals want to redistribute tax money for social programs that only benefit a few. While many are deserving, there are countless abuses and those that only seek to take advantage. Safety, security, and defense are truly the only things that benefit us all equally. They should be the only true matters of concern of a federal government. Most of the rest should be left up to state and local governments, and thus people can "vote with their feet."

Social issues - I oppose abortion and homosexual marriage, which makes me go right.
I believe in a right and a wrong. I believe in morals. That is also why I go right.
Also, in my good conscience I cannot support a program that would penalize the successful and bright of America in order to fund the lazy in our society.
