erm like dogs living shorter than us or tree living longer than us

That's actually a very good question. Some of it relates to the intensity of life. Some have calculated that for animals which have a heart, the lifetime measured by number of heartbeats is approximately constant. You should pursue this question much more, and probably make a science project out of it. Please report your results back here!

The metabolic process of trees is quite slow. The time to construct a large tree is long, so they need a long lifetime. Bacteria reproduce so quickly and so identically, they don't need a long lifetime. Some animals need a long time to convey important survival skills to their young. Humans need a very long time for education. They need a long lifespan to make that pay off. Current research in human longevity does more than just increase the human lifespan. It increases the human PRODUCTIVE lifespan, keeps us healthy longer.

I'm not sure of this but i guess its because of its life span, the average for humans is 75 years...it all depends on how you take care of your body...you may live shorter den a dog or longer den a tree
