Like say you buy a small item at the grocery store, but you are needing cash right then. If the item was only 15 dollars but you are needing 200 in cash can you write them a check for 215 and then they will give you the 200 in cash?

Good Luck in finding a sucker or anyone stupid that will accept your personal check!

Technology has enabled retail stores to check and obtain preapproval on debit and credit card purchases and simply the business of accepting personal checks resulted in losses due to bad checks that were never made good that bec they got left holding an empty bag of rotten goodies, many today will not accept personal checks...

Grocery stores will let customers using debit cards via their PIN to get cash back sometimes more than $20 but most likely if you didn't have sufficient balance in your checking account, otherwise the computer would reject the transaction causing you an embarrassment in front of the cashier and others standing in line...

You would not get a straight answer here buddy unless a banker answers your question but something i do have on top of my head is that im kinda sure the bank will cash your check even though she might not have any funds but she will be the one at fault. If you cash the check then case closed for you but for her its going to be another headache since the bank will penalize you if you give a check with out having funds. Anyways, tomorrow is going to be another day and well just visit your bank like nothing and cash the check and just hope nothing interferes with the transaction. Besides, its your ex wife. For some reason you divorced her right lol. Good Luck!

Each store has a policy on that. Most will allow you to write it over the amount of the sale, but within specified limits. The store I shop at most often allows checks up to $50 over the amount of sale.

Allowing $200 over the sale would be fairly unusual.
