New to the area, I welcome any information, which are good, which we should stay away from. Thanks!

Ignore those who said "Children's Hospital"; they don't know what they're talking about. First off, they do not do labor and delivery there at all!!!! Second of all, it's changed its name to Rady Childrens Hospital.

I am a medical professional who works at another hospital in San Diego and would vote for Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women as #1 without a doubt. This hospital ONLY does labor and delivery/gynecological surgery, so this is their specialty area. If there are any problems this is the place to be. If no problems, trust me this place is relatively new (built maybe 20 years ago or less) and very very comfortable. It's centrally located (near where 163 and 805 highways intersect). Their security system to protect against babynapping is outstanding. Top OBs in town are on staff.
As as others have mentioned, if there's a need for surgery on a newborn, Rady Children's Hospital is right next door, as well as several other hospitals (such as Sharp Memorial) for back up under unusual circumstances.

If Sharp Mary Birch isn't on your medical insurance plan, other good options would be Scripps La Jolla, Scripps Mercy in Hillcrest, and Sharp Grossmont in La Mesa. I did per diem work at Tri City Medical Center in Oceanside about 7 years ago and their facility and staff are very good; very nice birthing rooms and excellent nursing care. Their NICU (neonatal intensive care) is also good. But we all know that SMBHW is the best.

I know some nurses at Paradise Valley Hospital who are good nurses but PVH was recently sold to a for profit organization and some strange changes are talking place there, so I'd avoid PVH. Alvarado, and Scripps Chula Vista might be good to avoid right now. You might do fine there but they are having some problems on the financial end of things at those hospitals, which can sometimes affect care.

Best Hospital In San Diego

There are lots of passions to follow in San Diego and that hotelbye is the area to start discovers what San Diego needs to offer. In the San Diego holiday you will step external of your rut and you'll investigate new actions while you are here and you could only discover that acquiring a new desire is definitely an experience in itself. One of the places must see from San Diego is Balboa Park. That park has around a 1400 acre and here you can find famous buildings, numerous museums, gardens, and green space. The park was made for the Panama California Exhibition of 1915-1916. The main structure is Spanish-Mexican style, minimal stage houses that blend in with the organic surroundings. Among the highlights of the park would be the Botanical Gardens and lily lake, the Museum of Man, the Museum of Natural History, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the popular San Diego Zoo. Even though you never enter a building the park is just a lovely place.

Mary Birch Hospital for Women

I agree with Mary Birch, which is a division of Sharp. I had 3 there. If there is a problem with the baby, they have a transport team to run the baby to Children's right next door. You cannot deliver at Childrens, no delivery room, etc. Wouldn;'t go anywhere but Sharp if I had my choice. I also am a medical professional so I've worked at alot of the hospitals.

Scripps La Jolla is probably the best. I've known several women who have give birth there, and they really take good care of the new moms and babies.

I would stay the heck away from Alvarado Hospital (near SDSU) and Tri-City Hospital (Oceanside/Vista).
