Has anyone else experienced this? I introduced my gourami at the same time as the other fish in my tank (three red glass barbs and a red tailed shark). He is a complete bully! He nips at all of the barbs and it seems like he stalks my shark! My shark isn't aggressive. I think he's still young because he's quite small. He just swims away from the gourami. I don't know what to do. I don't think it will get too bad, but has anyone else experienced a mean dwarf gourami?

As mentioned it's pretty normal - gouramis are territorial by nature, and while dwarfs are usually easy going, you do get a bully every now and then. You can try removing him and re-decorating, but this usually doesn't change the character of the fish. Make sure your tank is well decorated with lots of plants blocking lines of sight, and make sure it's big enough for the fish you have chosen.

I had a Dwarf Gourami in my tank with a Rainbow Shark, but I had a completely opposite problem, my Shark chased my Gourami. I had to get rid of the Shark because he was attacking my Tetras. My Gourami is still the most peaceful fish in my tank. Maybe your Gourami is just insecure or maybe all Gouramis have different personalities based on how they have been treated in the pet stores... If he keeps nipping, you should give him back and get another. In a 10 gallon tank or larger, he shouldn't feel too threatened. Good luck!

yes right here i have about twenty of them and some time the bully one live longer then the one that is being bully by the bully, your shark might die of the gourami hurting it and some other fish might die, or you can take the gourami out and put it in baucket by it self or some thing, wait 2-3 days then put it back in your tank then it should be fine

Bullying is very common in fishes, including gourami. I have even seen goldfish and angel bully's :-)

The best treatment for a bully fish is to remove it from the tank and place in a seperate container/tank for at-least 3-4 days, while re-arrenging the old tank a little (making it a new place with the existing old fishes) and then re-introduce the bully back in the old tank. In most cases it becomes a new guy in a new neighbourhood with other united pals who does not recognizes the old bully, and the bully does not remains a bully, it becomes a good guy and becomes a part of the team.

Try it, in my case it worked nearly 99% times.

:-)
