I mean LITERALLY kick you in the butt IN PUBLIC everytime you turned your back, then he/she ran away so you couldn't get ahold of them (and obviously you're not gonna chase them down in public) when you get to the car would you:
A) ignore it
B) Give them a stern talking to
C) give them a slap on the wrist and say "don't do it again"
D) Give them a good whoopin and threaten them with another

Well, two wrongs don't make a right, but in this case, when we got home they would have a smoking behind, but we would also talk about this behavior and how it will not be tolerated. Then I would kick them in the butt to see how they like it! (just kidding about the last part). Oh, by the way, I would chase them down in public, then take them home immediately.

Well, your child needs to know who's boss. (You are!)
I would suggest a naughty mat or chair. Remember that you need to reinforce their good behavior! Kids like to act out in order to get attention. They do not care that the attention they are getting is negative, all they know is they got mommy or daddy's attention.
And I have to say, I was a bad kid as a child and I was spanked, and I turned out fine. So, if you feel you can control your anger and not spank your child out of anger, go for it.
As long as your state allows spanking that is. I used to carry a wooden spoon in my purse (it was about 5 inches long) and threaten to pull it out. Also, you can bring a naughty mat with you in the car and threaten to use the naughty mat in public. They don't want to be publicly humiliated. (My mom used this on me, like I said i was quite the naughty child) My mom also stopped taking us out in public when we were naughty.

Remember, putting him/her in timeout is not an instant fix. They will most likely fight it if they haven't been in it before. But your child needs to know their boundaries and the consequences for overstepping them.
I would advise you to watch Nanny 911 or Super Nanny.

i think i would have to go with C and D and depending on the Age of the child maybe some Restriction time as well. Its one thing to do that once in a playing manner but to do it over and over it again i do believe that would cross the line.

Ya gotta teach 'em respect while they are young.
When I was very small, I did something equally rotten to my grand-dad. He promptly picked me up by the hair, with one hand, and held me in front of his face while he explained things to me quite forcibly. I never made a similar mistake again.

But then my child would never do that too me. I am raising him to be an adult.

I'm a big believer in spankings. He's get a good spanking (when we got home) every time! I doubt if it would keep happening.
