Assuming that you live in a country with a social welfare system.

Can you think of a situation where an act of charity can actually hurt someone?

I give food, cothing, blankets, never money.

It doesn't hurt them or us. I don't believe it prevents people from finding 'real work'. If they're not ever going work then they just aren't. Others will.

I don't think charity can ever hurt someone unless someone gives away money they don't really have to someone who doesn't need it or will squander it. Organized charities like the Red Cross have misused and under used funds in the past and have a bad track record. That hurts the giver and those in need.

Hopefully none of us will ever harden our hearts against those who really need some help. I'm very big on alms for the poor.
