I will be a sophmore nxt yr and I was thinking about trying out for the basketball team...JV. What are some of the drills they make you do? Also, I usually play center, since i'm 5'9 3/4, do u have any tips that could make me a better center? Also, how can i prepare for tryouts? I already go to the gym and do cardio and weights three or more times a week. I'm also really nervous, and when i'm nervous, i play a lot worse, so how can i be less nervous during tryouts? My tryouts are in about 4 months.

Its all mental, if you get nervous to the point where you play bad, that needs to be your focus, me personally I like the spotlight, I look at it as an opportunity to show everyone what I can do and shine, that should be your mentality...If you want to play center, work on your lay ups and low post moves, focus on boxing out your man and hustling for the rebound, you will be fine.

run run and run some more
get your cardio up because that would be a real advantage to have a center that can run the floor well
also practice shooting drills and post moves
practice your baseline jumper and back down your oppenet with power
work on your dribbling
although your center you might not need to practice to dribble but if you can dribble well you might get moved to power foward and get more playing time that usual
during your tryouts make sure that you get the coaches attention, not be showing off but being effective
if your nervous in tryouts then you should try to breath slowly and close your eyes then refocus

I always got nervous in tryouts too! Just think of it as a regular game, and put yourself in the mind set that if you get in great, and if you don't just try harder next year, that always worked for me. 1-17 (under 1 min 25 sec is good), suicides, squats. Take a box and jump on and of it. The ladder exercise, weaves with a weighted ball, foul shots, jump shot and 3 racctices, rebounding practice, passing and dribbling drills
