I'm not sure who will be in charge of taking care of the problem. Just hope Hugo's knife is sharp when he starts cutting his nose off to spite his face.

My guess will be an internal problem as well as external pressure that will be the undoing of him. Possibly China will take him over and then he can be Hugo the puppet boy. You know they'll buy his oil.

I would say that wars have been fought for less. I don't know how Connoco will view this whole thing, but herein lies the slippery slope of doing business in foreign countries. If the government nationalizes your interests you will lose big. Venezuela has a right to act in what they feel are their own best interests, but alienating a large trading partner is never a good thing and always tends to have far reaching implications. The funny thing about doing business with China is that it doesn't bode well for small countries. Venezuela faces the definite danger of becoming just another Chinese satellite state like North Korea, or Vietnam and much like these countries they will have no one to turn to for help should they desire it.

I believe he will just go to another country to sell the oil. This will not help the US in any way. It may actually prove the point of so many other countries’ that have recently disagreed with US policy. Bush is in oil...the whole family is...it is all he cares about because it lines his pockets more! So finally there is someone who is going to say no to him and we wonder why???? Come on! We have to start regaining some of our past allegiances’ or we will keep going down this path to disgrace.

This just makes Hugo stronger and proves the total impotence of western capitalism.

No Paul, it won't - 'cause Hugo can just turn around and sell his country's oil to China. They'll pay top dollar...

I think the Venezuelan people will eventually figure out that he is a fascist in liberal's clothing and kick him out of office... permanently, and probably in disgrace. He has made lots of claims about what he is going to do, and they are NOT materializing in regards to his economic reforms.

Similar things did not help remove Castro from power, so I'd say no.

Do you really think you understand the Venezuelan situation?

It isn't as simple as most Americans think.
