sometimes the processed food is enough for them. My rabbit only eats as many as he needs...and leaves the rest... they make so many they dont always need to eat them all. Those idiots that dont KNOW anything about rabbits saying they dont need to eat them are IDIOTS.. dont listen to them... They obviously dont have rabbits..and if they do..they will get th short 4 year life span... my last rabbit lived to be 11... my current rabbit is almost 4.. =) yeaa

Rabbit Not Eating Or Pooping

Magy is right. Calm down. Rabbits do eat some of their fecal matter but only a small portion of it. And Candy is wrong. Yes, they do eat fecal matter. There are tons of articles on the subject and I have seen them do it some. I've raised rabbits for 25 years and I've raised and shown them nationally since the age of 5. So I've got the experience to contradict a person with 20 years experience. We normally keep a herd of about 200 rabbits.

Your rabbit is fine. In fact, you don't want your rabbit eating too much of it. Coccidiosis (a rabbit disease) is closely associated with rabbits eating their fecal matter. I've noticed that I have had more problems with coccidiosis if my rabbits were in solid floored cages instead of wire floored cages.

don't worry that much I THINK it's because she has a good digestion system. Rabbits only eat their feces to get nutrients from is again. but if your rabbit was doing it before the apple then it may be better to ask a vet. and magy is right, in pre-k we had a rabbit, during nap time the poo would roll all over the place. no-one knew what it was though.

Are you dense? Rabbits don't eat their "fecal matter" (cecals?). I have had rabbits all my life, raising up to 300 a year for show and food and pets. Never has a rabbit chosen to eat their own poop. You are supposed to have the bottom of the cage off the ground at least 2 ft, and the floor of the cage should be open for the poop to fall through, what doesn't fall through you should clean out once a week to keep your rabbit from getting infected sores on it's feet. Also you should have one piece of flat wood or something in one corner for the rabbit to sit on to help prevent sores and hair loss. They need roughage- like tree leaves, carrots, lettuce, apples, hardwood sticks etc. to keep their teeth from becoming overgrown. They like oats that you can get from a feed store, its good for their coat and digestion.
Please, the next time you decide to get a farm animal as a pet, do the research b4 you buy one, so that you will know what you are doing. Leaving your rabbit in its cage with its own feces is asking for a sick rabbit. They have books about how to care for them, you could even ask your local agricultural extension office- or ask the 4H club in your area.
Oh by the way- to the girl above- if your feeding your rabbit what it needs, it should not be eating its own poop. And my rabbits lived for over 10 years on average, even had one for 14 yrs as a pet.
