All businesses are made up of teams, groups of people who usually perform different tasks. Sometimes the jobs overlap a little to provide cover for people when they are on holiday. Absenteeism in any form has a knock on effect on the team, it is like having dominoes, one falls over and the rest start to go. Because the support mechanist has been weakened when a member of the team is not there. If it is for a holiday, this is us ally planned and the support network has time to pre-empt the absence, and usually only one or two people are permitted to take leave at the same time. If this pattern goes out of control by unplanned absenteeism, the structure of the workforce becomes weak, because they are trying to perform tasks which more people should be doing, and then more people may go of sick with pressure of work or depression.

Yes - when someone is absent the other people in the team have to do take the workload on and if the person is absent for along time this can cause the stress levels and morale of the workforce and team go down which in turn affects how the work is done.

The obvious answer is that when a person is absent, they miss information or practice; however, there are many other effects from having missed the aforementioned.

Upon his or her return, the absent person feels a sense of disconnect with the group due to missed information. In addition, the group suffers as well because they have to "fill in" the absent person and wait for them to catch up with the rest of the group.

Due to this person being behind, the group then may feel animosity or aggravation for the lack of progress, which in turn hurts the camaraderie of the group or team.

it can make the workplace morale go down as the person absent puts pressure of the present workforce work harder to meet targets and deadlines.

If it is a regular occurance, the absent person should be spoken to, to see if there is a legitimate reason why.
