I was invited to my boyfriend, sister-in-laws baby shower. I honestly do not know what to give her as a gift. It's a girl, and her first. Please give me ideas. Thanks

My daughter really enjoyed her bouncer when she was first born.

I liked getting diapers and bath stuff for my baby shower. The practial things where my favorite things to get because I liked picking out the toys =)

Check her registry so you won't buy her something she already has. You don't want her to have to return your gift. Believe me when I tell you that a lot of stores will give you so much grief when you try to return baby shower stuff, it's not even worth it sometimes.
If you are unable to find her registry, then just get her a cute little outfit (3-6 months or 6-9 months) and some diapers (size one). I really appreciated all the diapers I got at my shower. Don't get any clothes or diapers in newborn size bc they grow out of those very quickly. Some babies are born so big that they are never newborn size!

And I personally looove receiving gift cards from Target or Babies R Us, or even the local grocery store. That way you know that she is getting exactly what she wants/needs.

Check her registry, if she hasn't registered:
Diapers (a lot) , baby wipes, crib sheets, deluxe diaper genie, paci's, clothes beyond the newborn size(she will get plenty of those)
Another good idea is an amazon.com gift certificate so she can order toys and stuff for the baby.

I made a "mom's" emergency basket for my SIL. It had easy to eat snacks like trailmix, tylenol, a nursing gown, a spa gift certificate and a restaurant gift certificate, a "babysitting pass".

I have always enjoyed getting the things that i will use as opposed to the 30 stuffed animals or whatnots that somepeople give.

I like to give practical gifts like bouncer seats, baby bath kits, breast pump systems if they plan to breast feed, car seat, crib, whatever the couple needs! They will already be getting a lot of baby cloths, so usually I might throw in a cute outfit with their gift, but they get a lot of clothes already at the shower from everyone else (in my experience). Also, a couple packs of diapers maybe size newborn and the next up or something.
Findout what they need, if their doing a theme for the baby room etc, and go from there! Good luck and have fun shopping!!

I always buy a basket and fill it with things that may be forgotten or left out for buying when needed. Get a laundry basket, size depends on how much you plan to spend, and some tissue paper to line it with. Fill it with things like Tylenol, Motrin, Gas-X, Ora-gel, bottle brushes, pacifiers with different nipples so baby can pick her fave, larger bibs, bigger sized diapers, a baby toothbrush, anything that catches your eye. I always pick up an extra medicine kit and some outlet covers and a cute stuffed animal too. You can do this on a smaller scale with a little decorative basket and stick to the medicines if you aren't close to the family.

Many people are 'registered' with certain stores, for all sorts of items--you could ask your boyfriend if there is a wish-list.

Something that is always needed, yet usually not given for gifts by the immediate family is diapers (and formula--if the mother will be bottle-feeding). You should check and see what type(s) they will be using.

People can never have enough receiving blankets, crib sheets, etc.

If you decide to go with an outfit--make it in a larger size than newborn--so many people will get the newborn size--get a size or two larger.

A Gift card for Babys R Us is the perfect gift, she would buy what she might not get at the baby shower.

Hello, I actually make and sell Shopping Cart Covers out of my home. They help keep the baby away from the germs on the Shopping Carts and are also good for Restaurant Highchairs, Park Swings and Public Strollers.
I also have Boo Boo Hot/Cold Packs for sale as well.
Check out my store at

Thanks and have a great day--Kirsten

A couple of lesser known ideas........ a supply of disposable diapers, if thats the way the mother is going. A piggy bank, ceramic or silver, depending on what amount you can spend, with SOME coinage in it to start (otherwise, its unlucky) or as a last ditch effort, a gift card or certificate from a baby store, like Please Mum, or Jack and Jill, or that sort of place. They are all ideas that are probably not going to be repeated by the closer relatives, and friends, who would probably choose to give handmade clothing or bigger and more expensive items.

the best gift is something no one else thinks of while they are giving her gifts for her baby why not give something for mom after delivery? like her favorite soap some feminine napkins ( the long overnights are always apreciated after birth) a pretty cotton nightie, body lotion and some calgon bath stuff to relax she will also need a baby diary to keep track of the baby"s progress.........room monitor...........and some gentle unscented baby laundry detergent
