I know I'm gonna have to start making him food. But I don't cook or know any recipes. What do you feed your 11 month old thats healthy if your not a healthy eater and nutritionally challenged yourself? I refuse to let him know what its like to be obese! (like me)

I have the same problem and I also have quite a bit of unused babyfood so make some small pasta usually diatini or small shells and I mix the baby food with the pasta so he can feed himself... I also use the leftover babyfood in my 3 yr. olds food as well... I mix it in his spagetti sauce or macaroni and cheese... I also take finely chopped broccoli and add it to mac n cheese... I give my son(s) mandarin oranges and diced up lunch meat.... My children are on the small side so I feed them whatever they want whenever... However, I cook almost all their meals.... I also give my children whole milk with carnation instant breakfast and sometimes I add a banana to the blender.... I do not give my 11 month old any grapes, raisins, hot dogs (unless chopped to about a pea size or peanut butter... My son(s) also like frozen/thawed green peas raw and garbanzo beans (raw) like from a salad bar.. I just cut them in half for my little one.... I also put tuna fish inside mac n cheese or hamburger meat (cooked).... If you have a Ruby Tuesday's by you go there and give your child some stuff from the salad bar.. See what they like.. There's no charge if you order the salad bar with your entree...

If he's gagging on regular food, you're not cutting it up small enough. You have to cut it into tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny pieces, or else mash it up into an easily-swallowed mush (like the baby food). Make sure he only eats one piece at a time. It takes forever. It's a very tedious process, feeding a child that small. And you use common-sense on what to feed him. Not chocolate and soda and other junk. If you're having a boneless, skinless chicken breast for lunch, with broccoli and a baked potato for lunch, give him little teeny bits of all that. Don't be buying fast food for him. There are thousands, even millions, of recipes on the internet. Go to food.com Fast, easy. Buy some chicken, buy some frozen veggies, buy canned carrots. Get some seasonings out and play with those.

If you haven't a clue when it comes to healthy eating, you're going to have to start doing some research. Learn how to eat healthy first. And I'll tell ya now, 'do as I say, not as I do' does NOT work. I'm not telling you this as a 'skinny chick' with no kids. I'm a single mother, and I've been clear up to 248 pounds, and I've been clear down to 136, and everything inbetween. I know where you're coming from, but you're also going to have to teach yourself about fitness and nutrition, and cooking most importantly.

If you want him to eat healthy, and grow healthy, you need to be a good example. He will resent being given different food and different treatment, even if it is in his best interest.

Good luck.

I have 6 kids, 5 boys and a baby girl, ALL huge eaters and I am genetically challenged myself. However, all the kids love scrambled eggs. Mashed potatoes, or mashed cauliflour, sweet potatoes, carrots...
Cereal is another good one. ALl my kids loved the PB&J although I notice lately they discourage young children from eating the PB?
Part of the key to keeping the kids (and ourselves) from the obese war is to be as active as possible. As much as possible. There are some GREAT mom and baby exsercise videos out there. And some great stuff On Demand if you have the cable tv.
Good Luck

It is normal for babies to gag on food when they are starting to eat grown up food, it's a reflex they have, well we all have. When my son was not interested in baby food anymore i started to feed him soups and stews to start. You can make a wicked beef stew. First you get some beef chunks, raw, and cut them up into tiny little bits, or just leave them big and cut them up later, and put them in a big pot, saute them with some onions and butter until they are browned, then add about 3-5 cups of beef stock, you can buy this in a carton, turn that up to med heat. Cut up carrots, potatoe, celery, turnip, and anything else you want, I add peas sometimes, cut all those up in to little peices, and add to the broth with the beef in it and cook those on med until they are really soft. Then you need to thicken the broth a bit, So you take a little flour in a cup and mix water in it till it is milky and watery, add this to the broth, you may have to repeat this a couple of times, depends on how thick you want your broth. It is a really good, healthy recipe and babies love it, it is hearty and fills them up.
For a couple of meals a week I buy soups in the can as well, chicken w/pasta is a favorite, these have high sodium so they are not good all the time. Try, cubed cheese, lunch meat, bananas, orange, strawberries, and other fruit. Puffed wheat and cheerios are good for cereal, also a flavoured oatmeal is good, spaghetti, yougurt w/ fruit, quaker crispy minis, there are lots of healthy food options, you have to try new things, and all the time. Good Luck. If you need any more meal ideas e-mail me at fifistarburst@yahoo.ca

Lots of veggies like broccoli, carrots, cauliflower. Boil them until they are soft and cut them really small. Don't season them to heavy and don't put cheese on them unless you are planning on doing it every time. Lean meats like skinless chicken breast baked in the oven. I make my own bread for my son and I always make whole wheat. All the pasta and crackers are whole wheat too. Try not to cut too much fat out of his diet until he is a little older or he is over weight. He needs it to develop. On the night i don't feel like cooking I buy those toddler entrees from the baby food section. They have mashed potatoes and noodles.

My woman replaced into doing an analogous factor up until eventually final week (she turns 1yr previous on Saturday)... it replaced into fairly extremely humorous besides getting her foodstuff everywhere in the floor as she could gag and cough up her 'chunky' foodstuff. Now i'm letting her consume her peas, eco-friendly beens, etc total and she or he loves it! She desperate while she replaced into waiting, and that i dont understand if there is plenty you're able to do to velocity up the approach. only shop offering different kinds of foodstuff, and while she has desperate its the final 2nd she'll supply up pretending to gag on it! Oh sure, I could desire to upload my woman has had 8 tooth on the grounds that she replaced into 9mths, so it isnt an argument with tooth. it fairly is a sparkling texture and she or he only desires to get used to it.

TALK TO A DOCTOR, QUICKLY!
this is serious. you need to know what a baby's nutritional needs are. you can smash the food or lightly blend it if he gags. maybe you are giving him too big of pieces. he needs fruit, veggies, and healthy meat..not fast food, french fries or candy. apple sauce, soup, eggs, cooked carrots, (get a cook book) go to the library and ask what is a good one for babies first foods.

being a mom of 3 kids myself i have learned what to give them with them with out them choking also the choking could be a sign that he is full! give him snacks through out the day like bananas, Mandarin oranges, toast, soups like chicken and stars, graham crackers, animal cookies, mashed potatoes and gravy, canned corn, corn on the cob cook it let it cool and give it to him and let him go to town he'll love it, french sliced green beans, rice, malt-o-meal, oatmeal (that comes in the little packages) If you are going to give him meat cut it up really small, spaghetti-o's, hot dogs just make sure you cut it small, he can pretty much eat what we eat as long as it is cut up, little ones that age love to eat with their hands and they will eat it better. If you have anymore questions I'll be glad to answer them!!!!!!!! Hope this helps

chunks of baked potato, some not-too-salty crackers, bits of fruit, cheese

Meat is hard because most takes a lot of chewing and he doesn't have the teeth for it yet. Chicken livers are soft if boiled, but messy--not to mention the smell, but you love your child, right?, and want him to have plenty of iron.
