Really that's not bad. Is it part of an irony? I believe Pan's Labyrinth (the film) began with a so-called "threadbare" phrase like that. I'd want to continue reading it.
And that's all that matters: keep the reader on the hook.

I enjoy coming up with good opening sentences too. I wouldn't let everybody know like what you're doing though.

Think of an ending and work back.
For example, '-and that's my story but it was all once upon a time and a long time ago.'

It sounds like you are on to a winner. Soon, I imagine, when the royalties start bursting your coffers, you may not have the time to come and play with us mere mortals - mind you, they often say the second book can be the hardest to write, so you may come back.

I'm going to write a book titled "Delusional Fools Who Believe They're the Next Bestseller."

What do you think?

I wish you luck but caution you not to expect your first book to be a best seller. Maybe it will be, but I'd say most authors rarely make the best sellers list their first time out.

Yes, great starting line. Make sure it ends with "and they all lived poorly ever after" and you are guarenteed that I will buy that book.
