Certain phrases used by the McCann supporters who post on here really annoy me - for example:

1) 'They made a mistake/error in judgement'... They did NOT make a mistake, they made a deliberate DECISION to leave the children unsupervised and they made the same decision repeatedly over their holiday - the night Madeleine was abducted was the second to last of their holiday.

2) They've admitted their guilt/they know it's their fault....
They have NOT admitted their guilt at all, in fact they have been incredibly careful to NOT implicate themselves in any way, and made a point of publicising the fact that they DON'T feel they have to blame themselves or each other. They made reference to the guilt that would never leave them - IN THE CONTEXT of it being similar to them being in the next bedroom.

3) People have a choice whether to donate to the fund/organise or attend fundraising events...
WRONG! Most people who donate or participate in raising money for the fund are under the impression that they are helping support the search for Madeleine. I'm willing to bet only a relatively small number of people understand that the fund is a limited company, with no obligation to use the money for searching for the child at all - and so far there is no evidence of any active search happening. People cannot make a choice if they are not fully informed.

4) The parents are heartbroken/will pay the price forever/ are awake all night...
I agree with you Lexy - it doesn't do to speculate, and in this instance, we can't afford to project our own feelings onto the McCanns. The fact is that Gerry wrote in his blog that he and Kate have no trouble sleeping at night, because they're so tired after their busy days. He also writes about lots of other things, but not ONCE in his quite extensive blogging has he mentioned being heartbroken or racked by guilt. So how do those that say how the McCanns are feeling know how they're feeling? I'm only going on the evidence, and am careful to avoid speculation.

5) It's not for you to judge that what they did was wrong....
It's not me judging - it's the LAW!!!

6) They don't deserve to be charged with child neglect...
People have been charged over far less:

I have never advocated for the removal of the children from their care, and I don't for a minute think that they 'deserve' what happened to them.
I do think that they have failed to step up and accept responsibility for their actions, that they have been remarkably calculating about protecting their reputations as blameless, and have set up a website that is nothing short of crass, both with regard to the speed with which it was set up, and the ONLINE STORE!!!! Ye gods...
I agree that we simply don't know a lot of things - like what actually happened to Madeleine and how it came to happen - we only have the McCanns' version of events; or what will happen to the money - we only know that Gerry said they will NOT be hiring private investigators.

How can you say its ALL their fault? The Portuguese police appear to be treating it as an abduction and there is no evidence that they are treating the McCanns as suspects. So, do you really attribute no blame at all to the abductor? This is why I get so angry, you see. Your statement is utterly illogical.

I can acknowledge that they made a mistake or, if you prefer, that they were wrong to leave the kids alone. As I have said before, the fact that Madeleine was abducted makes that a bit of a no-brainer, don't you think? But I don't defend them against the suggestion that this was wrong but against the entirely unwarranted and vicious campaign of spite and venom much of which is based on lies and prejudice.

Acknowledging they made a mistake does not justify trying to grind them into the dust.

I think this is absolutley disgusting.
Nobody deserves to have their child snatched and possibly abused or worse.
It is not the parents fault this has happened - the only person responsible is the evil ba$tard who took her and if the McCanns had been watching her that person would have continued to look until they came across another unsupervised child.

Of course common sense tells you that they made a huge mistake, and especially now with all the paedo awareness it is very unusual for people to accept that their children are safe unsupervised but lets face it, this situation is just a tragic accident and if the person responsible had been identified the public and media wouldn't even comment of the conduct of the parents. People just want someone to blame.

I'm sure everyone at one time or another does something a bit risky, and the chances of anything of this magnitude happening on that one occasion are tiny. - It was just incredible bad luck.

And all this business about they want more publicity for themselves!
They are trying to find their daughter of course they want the whole world to know!

I can't beleive people can be so cruel as to blame them for this happening to their daughter.
The world has gone mad - it is not right to accept the criminals, psycos and paedos in society only to then gang up on the normal caring everyday people who fall victim to them.

You should all be ashamed of your comments, no one deserves to have that happen to their family

EVERY single human has made a mistake. Hindsight is 20-20 and they obviously realize they made a mistake given the results. At the time, they didn't realize they were doing anything wrong, obviously given the results, they do now.

They looked like good parents 99.999% of the time, but slipped up while relaxing on holiday. There isn't a single person on earth who has never done anything "wrong" - they may not have left their kids alone but they will have done something else "wrong" and most of the time the consequences are not so high so it's easier to view the decision in a better light.

Child abduction by a stranger who isn't the child's parent is extremely rare - the cases are high profile so it looks more common than it is. I acknowledge they did something wrong, but putting myself in their shoes, feel terrible for what they are going through. Its obvious how much they love that little girl and obviously if they could go back in time they wouldn't do that again

As for them being brought to justice for neglect, what they did was not illegal, the law is actually not clear on that. Also, I would rather go to jail forever than go through right now what they are going through and I'm sure they would too.

Well i agree with you. I think they was in the wrong. Personally if i was older and on ma hols, the parents might want to go to a pub together or somthing so they obviosuly put their trust in that playgroup to keep their kids safe, but that obviously didnt happen.

My parents said they would never leave me and my sis at somewhere like that.

"If you've got kids, they;re your responsibility" thats my moral.

But i do hope she gets found sometime soon. Poor lil girl x x

Very well said. No one in their right minds would have left 3 small children alone in the first place. How can they call themselves parents. How can they also call themselves doctors. I mean doctors help people they do not neglect them. How can they say they were not in the wrong when they were 100% wrong. How can they say leaving no stone unturned when they are making no effort themselves. I thought this whole thing was fishy at the start now it is even more fishier. I am sorry I don't mean to rant, but these two are pathetic. Yes we are upset because it WAS their fault.

i cant defend what they did that night but i can still pity them they must be going through hell regardless of why they left them or what they did since they could never have envisaged this in truth though my only real concern is the missing four year old

some of the accusations and jokes are what i defend the mccanns i against not their actions that night
as you say nobody knows what happened that night so you could point the finger at anybody in portugal that night not just her parents
i am more worried about paedos and monsters in society that i am about parents who made a selfish decision

OK, so i will explain again.
YES I agree that it was a huge error in judgement to leave the 3 children in the way the McCanns did.
Of that I am clear.
My unrest with some, and try to read the SOME, of what you describe as the non McCann supporters is the nature of some of the posts.
I have read some absolutley revolting and sick statements which have left me feeling shocked.
Others have made wild accusations regard the McCannns being a part of the abduction, some have even said that the McCanns know where she is-No proof of any of this just nasty wild speculation made by, in my opinon complete morons.
The whole hate campaign has now moved on to encompass other family members with similar revolting postings being made.
Then we have Mr and Mrs Perfect Parents, who post the most boring stuff telling us all how they have never left there Kids, how great there parenting skills are etc etc etc.
Yes, the McCanns made a massive error in judgement which has resulted in this tragady, but what the hell good it does for some people to spew out the crap and un-founded accusations on here I will never understand /agree with or subscribe to.
Neither do I beleive half of the people who say they have never made mistakes with their parenting which I have no doubt could have resulted in a similar tragady.
There but for the grace of God go I, and for me I feel the McCanns are going through a living Hell.
Despite mistakes and errors in judgements they have made.
Roll on the thumbs down, I could really not give a Rats ****.
Edi tcpl4realuk
NO they don't do they, maybe thats why those type of WILD accusations should stop-is that so hard to grasp.

No time for these people
