sounds like they have ick. You can get a treatment you just add to their water and it will go away in about 2-3 days

If the spotsw are small and white like grains of sand you have an ick infestation. That is easily cured with ich medication available from any pet stop. Look for the type with malachite green and formalin in it, Quick Cure is one brand with these. Treat for 7 days after you see the last white spot on any fish, no matter what the package says. It really does take that long to be sure it's gone.

Just because it's easy to treat, don't take it lightly. Ich WILL kill your fish if left untreated and it won't take but a few days for this to happen.

Best of luck!

Does the fish rub, Swim in the filter current, or have clamped fins? He might have ich if its exprienced any of these symptoms (maybe but maybe not). Do you have any other fish? Quarintine him and wait to see if he has ich. What type of tank do you have? You could buy a commercial ich medication or change the water by a step process or do a salt treatment.

Step by step
1. Every 24 hours take these steps, Move fish to another tank with no substrate. You could or probaly take out the gravel if you want out of the other tank either main or hosipital. Siphon out all the water in the other tank.
2. Fill it back up with water and put the fish back in draining the water in the other tank. Fill it back up. Do in 24 hours. Keep switching until all the white spots are off and continue for 7 days.

Salt treatment
1. Buy aquarium salt and raise the tank up to 80F. Do what the manufactures inctructions say.

Hopefully your fish won't have ich, also check the water quality. ☻:)

It may be some sort of bacterial infection. Take a look at pictures of different types of bacterial infections and see if they look anything like what your fish has. If you see any red streaking in the fins, or anything that looks like an open wound, that's probably a bacterial infection. Remember, if you do have a bacterial infection, you need anti-biotics to heal the fish. Ich medications only kill some parasites, but do not work on bacterial infections, or anything except ich for the most part. Ich is very small white dots, it almost looks like it has small crystals of salt or sugar stuck to the fish

I had this same problem. You see, there are many causes for this. Put them in a cooler spot (If they are in the sunlight, they might be getting dehydrated) or buy them different fish food( TetraColor or TetraFish works very well because they are designed to give your fish color) or maybe you may have to clean their fish tank and put special water they sell at the Pet Store. (P.S. If none of these answers work, try buying them a water treatment for fish called Tetra Easy Balance [make sure it has Nitraban])

after a 1/4 water change, gradually raise the water temperature to 31 dc for 4 days, white spots shoud be gone by then, if they still there, keep the temperature high for few more days until all the spots gone.

ps, as goldfish is cold water fish, this method is a bit risky.....

I recall that over 50 years ago, we used to take such an infected fish out of the main pond, let it swim in a small bowl of the pondwater, with a single grain of Potassium Permanganate (KMnO4) added. As it dissolved it gave off a faint purple cloud which stopped any fungal infection.

You really should go to or call your local pet shop and ask about this because I know discoloration on goldfish can mean that they are sick or their tank can be contaminated with mold/fungus. And if one fish is sick it can be contagious to the others.
