Even if I haven't had any fruit in the house for weeks and have seen no fruit flies at all, if I bring home some various fruits and put them in a bowl on the table, the next morning I have fruit flies. Can I cover them with a glass cover or will that trap too much moisture? Is there a screen type cover on the market?

It appears that you are bringing the fruit flys home with you when you buy your fruit.. my suggestion, keep them in the fridge for a couple days, that should kill them. Rinse and put on the table, see if that helps. If that doesn't help, go to the dollar store and buy some fake fruit and put that on your table, and keep the fresh fruit in the fridge.

When you bring the fruit home, you should rinse it off. There might be fruit juice on it that is attracting them (as well as fertilizers and pesticides). Bed Bath and Beyond and Target have a screen to go over food (made for picnics, but it might work for you). I think you're right about a glass cover- the fruit might ripen too quickly for you under trapped cover like that. I used to get a lot of fruit flies from my bananas, and I started washing them when I got home, and it has worked. Good luck and hope that helps!

Time flies like the wind, but fruit flies like bananas.

Put them in the fridge, at the same time keep it fresh and eat it cool.
