Yes so this 97 Maxima just WONT turn....all i get is 1 or 2 "clicks", and thats pretty much it..... (It has been dormant for 3yrs, but the Battery is next-to-new)....however:

- The radio comes on
- The power windows work perfect
- the interior lights are A-OK
- the Hud-Panel lights up nicely
- A/C-----> GOOD!

SO bascially what i am saying is: the car's features are fully-operational, but the engine just WONT TURN or "The lights are on, but nobody is home!!" lol.....

Also - The car does in fact have an Alarm System, and many other people put there say that this in fact could also be a prime suspect......any ideas

Its either corrosion in the wires going from the battery to the starter, a bad starter. But im 90 percent sure that it was because the engine sat for 3 years. there is build up in the engine, the oil is very thick, so when the starter tries to turn the engine, the starter doesn't have enough torque to turn it, thats why you just here the click. Try not to start the engine too much, your battery will run out. try cleaning the cams, and replacing spark plugs.

The car has not run in 3 years and there are so many things that could be the problem but start with this list:

-get a new battery
-clean the corrosion from all battery related components
-inspect all ignition related wiring
-release the belts and manually turn the engine several times
-drain the gas tank and put in new gasoline
-remove the spark plugs and spray oil into the combustion chamber.
-install the new battery, but then remove the ignition coil and crank the engine several times.
-reinstall the ignition coil and attempt to start the car.

Good luck.

If you are sure that the battery is fully charged, then my best guess would be either:

1) Your starter solenoid or bendix has failed due to corrosion.

2) Your engine might have siezed up solid.

Don't assume that because the lights or other items work, that it means the battery is full. The starter requires MUCH more current to run than any other item on the car. You might want to try using jumper cables from another car that is running to be sure.

Bad starter, solenoid, wires, ignition switch, or neutral safety switch----have to trace where the power is coming in to the ignition switch and follow through to the starter or start with the starter and work your way back...alarm system---- probably would not get a click or two if it was armed.Try moving the shifter from park to neutral as you turn the key to start position---may be bad neutral safety switch. Could be engine seized from sitting? try manually rotating crankshaft with a large socket wrench and correct size socket on the front crank bolt.
