just starting a salt water tank have a few fresh water tanks
i just got the tank for the salt water.

Sure, regular gravel will work fine for a fish only saltwater tank. Most people use crushed coral or something similar because it helps to maintain the high pH needed in a salt tank, but you can go with regular gravel without a problem.

Sure, regular gravel will work fine in a fish only tank. If you plan on doing corals or inverts then you'll want to use a different substrate.

regular pea or river gravel will work but it's not the same as say, live sand or aragonite. you'll have to gravel vacuum it like in FW but it won't buffer the pH like aragonite and won't help keep nitrates down like live sand. you best bet is to pick up 1 pound per gallonof CaribSea Live Aragonite Sand. if you want sand sifting gobies and such make it 1.5 to 2 pounds per gallon.
