The majority of birds are active during daylight hours. However, in cities and urban areas where lots of lights are left on, some birds will be active at night. One example is the mockingbird. During mating season the male mocker will sing continuously, night and day on top of a light pole.
In cities birds may have a limited choice of roosting areas. You may have disturbed a sleeping bird or birds. I live in the country. And have disturbed cardinals that roost in a cedar by the house. Yes, they give the warning call, while flying off.

Some do, mine doesn't. The ones that do are probably being bothered by light, either from streetlamps, or nightlights. If you plan on getting one, any pet store will tell you to either custom fit a black cloth cover for the cage at night- it keeps out the creepy-crawlies that'll spook them, as well as the light, and a good bit of the noise. Make sure that when you put them to bed, you go to bed as well- extra noise will confuse and scare them. Not to mention if it's winter, throw an extra blanket on over the cage at night, as the natural temperature for cockatiels is 78- 80 degrees, Fahrenheit. Normally, cockatiels are a very quiet species, until you start interacting with them.

Yeah theyll make noises especially if startled or what not. A couple nights ago from about 1 til 5 in the morning their was a mocking bird outside my window and for no reason it just kept making noises. Sometimes I think they do it just to piss people off

If you disturbed a nesting or sleeping bird, it may have given an "alarm" call to alert the other birds. There are SOME birds that do normally sing at night, though, so it could be that as well.

Most birds don't make alot of noise during the night, but there are some diurnal birds that will sing all night long during mating season. Mockingbirds are one example of this. And then of course there are nocturnal birds.

With all the cats out there cause of humans not spaying them, birds are basically f@c*ed at night. That's why its very rare to find a dead bird around.
