Now I know this will drive neocons/theocons/conservatives absolutely nuts because of their feelings about appeasement (I know, Bombing & invading is much more sexy & exciting) but maybe, just maybe, it might be smarter to try to use diplomacy, even with Axis of evil nations, because if sure beats getting 1000s of US troops killed & getting caught up in unwinnable wars, don't you think?

Lol...the reason they stopped is they knew Bush would nuke em till they glowed...unlike his pathetic predecessor who sent the troll Carter over to NK to give away our reactor secrets.

I agree with that philosophy in most cases- but North Korea is an exception. The thing is diplomacy hasn't really worked in that sense that you have a dictatorship that exceeds, in many ways, the total control and subversion of the human spirit chronicled in Orwell's 1984.

However, that doesn't mean I think we should invade. Firstly, we have more nukes than anyone in the world and are turning a blind eye to other growing and/or illegal programs in places like Israel, India, and Pakistan so I can't shoulder the hypocrisy there.

Secondly, I think a large part of the North Korean population support the government despite the mass starvation, enslavement, disappearings and all, so I think a war would be unwinnable.

Thirdly, if they didn't procure nuclear weapons I don't think they would use them under the principal of MAD. And last- the lesson I hope most of have learned by now (although I know many stubborn idiots refuse to yield), you can't just go and invade a country and bomb it and kill a bunch of innocent people just because you don't like their policies!

I think isolation is the best solution around right now, but we should sell agricultural and medical goods and the like to them (the luxury goods ban was genius, I must say). Any improvements from there should come at the behest of the International community contingent upon radical reforms in Civil Liberties in the N. Korea government.

I'll conclude by saying that I don't think the government wants to invade because, unlike Iraq, there are no valuable commodities (ie, oil) we can profit from. However, by NOT invading, of course, we have set a precedent that if you don't have nuclear weapons (like Iraq) you'll be invaded whereas if you do (N. Korea) we'll go the diplomatic route which sends a great message to all the non-nuclear countries out there.

Way to go Bush, ya big dumb idiot.

Deplomacy is always tried first and iun case you missed it and you obviouisly did (must be the kool-aide) there were some 11 years of deplomacy with Saddam and some 17 UN (the World) resolutions against him. It's the same with Korea, deplomacy first and then kick them in the A**! Dude the war was already won, you have to get off the kool-aide!

The problem is this: its like dealing with a child. Now any time North Korea wants something, they will threaten to start a nuclear program. It also shows us as being weak on the world stage.

Far how long?
Ever hear of Neville Chamberlain?

Chamberlain's legacy is marked by his policy of appeasement towards Nazi Germany regarding the concession of Czechoslovakia to Adolf Hitler, marked by the Munich Agreement in 1938. In the same year he also gave up the Irish Free State Royal Navy ports, in practice making it safe for German submarines to stay about 200 miles (300 km) west of the Irish coast out of range of the Royal Navy, where they could pick off merchant shipping at will.

The year was 1938 and good ol' boy Neville was heard to say, "What we have here is peace in our time!" referring to his appeasement of Nazi Germany

The rest you know..... Well maybe not.

North Korea never wanted nuclear power.

Kim Jong Ill uses these issues to get money from countries like ours to support his failed government.

Isn't it odd that many have been saying that sanctions, negotiations, understanding does not work. Now I wonder where that came from?
