Let me set the scene...
You're out with a few friends in town having a drink and decide to walk home by yourself.
About a quarter of an hour later you see a friend of your's being followed by about 8 men in their twenties. They seem to have selected your friend for a kicking. Your friend doesn't seem to have noticed you. One of the men jumps on your friend and his mates quickly join in kicking and punching your freind. You quickly surmise that you would be unable to help your freind and would more than likely get a kicking yourself.
What would you do?

Jump in. I would not let my friends go down like that. I would go down with them.

Accept the fact that you may very likely get your a** kicked, go defend/ help your friend, and then laugh about it later as the wounds heal.. You never leave a friend behind or in harms way. How would you feel to know that your "friend" watched you get beat down by 8 guys while they did nothing to help?? A true friend wouldn't walk away.. 8 guys, two of us?? I'm getting a bat or a stick or something and I'm getting my friend off the ground then we're gonna throw down together..
P.S. - this questions brings to mind one of the best books I've read in a long time .. "THE KITE RUNNER" by khaled hosseini. I recommend it to everyone. Your welcome.

Well what can I do by jumping in? I'd get bashed myself, so as an honest answer I would try to find help by either calling for the police or some authority or try to find the nearest police station it's a difficult situation though.

Well id jump in and help, probably try to spot who the ringleader is and take him on first ?.
I fight like a girl but i could not stand and watch a friend take a pasting !!.

if he is a true friend to u then u shud help ...its very dangerous this day and age tho ..so its a gamble ..if ure friend got killed or injured by this gang im sure you wud or regretted it for the rest of your life if u didnt help and not helping him tho u would not heard the end of it and probly lost your friends friendship ... also if u had got killed or injured helping him u would of been a hero to every1

I detest violence, but I'd jump in there and get them off him. Might use a nice tree branch or brick, if available. I despise packs of dogs running wild...

like it or lump it you got to take a kicking with them hell if you win you come out like men if you lose you claim they cheated and have a great bonding experience complimenting each other on how you "didn't bleed when they hit your nose" or "managed to ram your head into their fist to confuse them..."

call the cops and tell them exactly where you are then try to get a good look at their faces to try to remember their faces in case you are questioned later by the police.
