Boston Celtics fan should not be totally upset. There have been great players who was not taken in the top 4. Michael Finely, Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, Tracy McGrady, and Kobe Brryant. Also karma proves to be a kick in the butt. At worst the Celtics should have had the 10th best record in the east. There is no way a team with an all-star like paul pierce and ok players such as Al Jefferson should have the worst record in the league with a depleting weak east.

Boston needs a game changing talent like an Oden or a Durant. The players after them are a bit of a question mark (well, maybe except Al Horford). The Celtics will probably be stuck with selecting the Mike Conley Jr., Brandon Wright, Yi Jianlian, Jeff Green, Corey Brewer, and Joakim Noah's of the world. These players are all unique talent with great potential but they are drafted mostly based on potential. Oden, Durant, and maybe Horford could actually step in and contribute to a team right away while the rest may take a few years to develop that won't sit pretty for Paul Pierce who will demand a trade unless the Celtics can find someone who can step in and contribute right away.

If Boston can not find a way to trade up in the draft or trade for another dominant go-to veteran like a Shawn Marion, Kevin Garnett, or Jermaine O'Neal (all 3 who have flat out said they don't want to play for Boston) then Pierce doesn't wish to stay around and watch the team rebuild. At this rate, the Celtics might as well just trade Pierce for some young talent or maybe even draft picks so they could start over and rebuild. They certainly have some of the building blocks (Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Delonted West, Ryan Gomes) to become a really great team in the future. It's really now or the future for Boston.

Well, the Celtics may not even have a pick in the first round by Thursday's draft. There have been talks of them getting in a 4-way deal with the Lakers, TWolves, and Pacers. The Celtics would get Jermaine Oneal and would lose the #5 draft pick.

But, the reason the Celtics fans are pissed is because, like any fan of a bad team, you want the #1 pick. I guarantee you no team in the NBA wants to miss out on Greg Oden. Hes that good. If your team had the chance to get Greg Oden, and then they ended up with the #5 pick, youd be pretty mad too. Considering they just missed out on Greg Oden AND Kevin Durant, and probably Al Horford too. Thats not good.

You are right though. There is alot of talent they could get.
Theres Corey Brewer, Yi Jianlian, Mike Conley, Al Horford, Jeff Green, Julian Wright, and Al Thornton, just to name a few.

The Celtics have a very young team. Players coming into the NBA usually need about 3-5 years to become impact players. Outside of Oden or Durant who will likely be impact players immediately, any other player drafted is going to take time to develop. With the 5 pick you may get a player who becomes great, but your going to wait some time for him to develop. The Celtics fans are tired of waiting and Paul Pierce is saying he wants out of Boston if they don't trade the 5 pick for some veteran help. If they lose Pierce, they are in even worse shape.

Also the Celtics have had buzzards luck when it comes to the draft since the days of Larry Bird. Len Bias dies of an overdose right after the draft, Reggie Lewis drops dead, missed out on Tim Duncan, Pitino traded Chauncy Billups.

Imagine how Yankee fans would feel if the Yankees don't win a world series for over 20 years.

Actually the C's were that bad when Duncan was coming into the NBA they didn't tank that year, and they had 2 picks that year too that had a chance to take the #1 slot.

We are upset now because we still have never had a #1 pic in the history of the NBA draft. And yea we wanted Oden, or Durrant, we have to win soon, ticket sales suck up here, lets face it, I'd rather save my money during the winter to buy another 2 games at Fenway, or Foxbough, then waste it going to see the B's or C's. Hell for one game in the Garden I could see 4 Rev's games, and at least they win!

Can we get talent with 5 sure, but it's not going to be talent right now, if we somehow pull off the trade for KG then we could easily make the playoffs in the East, with Pierce and KG, while developing younger talent for next year and maybe win it all.

Boston canont trade up to pick 1 or 2 where Oden and Durant will be drafted. Kevin Garnett does not want to go to Boston. There is speculation of a 4 team trade.
Lakers get Kevin Garnett
Pacers get Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynut
Celtics get Jermanie O'Neal
Timberwolves get Al Jefferson and 5th pick in the draft.
If this trade does happen, the Celetics could be happy since Jermaine O'Neal is a good PF/C and will help them

Boston wanted one of the first two picks of this draft to pick either Oden or Durant. Now they have to settle for a non-franchise player (Horford or Noah) or a talented raw player (Yi Jianlian). That's a serious downgrade. This is similar to 1997 when they couldn't draft Tim Duncan. Boston drafted two "busts": Chauncey Billups and Ron Mercer. Billups became a good player in 2001-02 in Minnesota, and then an All-Star when he signed with Detroit. Mercer never developed into a good NBA player.

The Boston Celtics are a mess. It's one thing to play young players and commit to development. It's another thing to play young players with a veteran superstar on your team (Paul Pierce).

If GM Danny Ainge isn't serious about trading Al Jefferson and the 5th pick overall... Then he should seriously consider trading Paul Pierce for draft picks and a bunch of players. An unhappy superstar will lead to more unhappy seasons. I think you see that in Minnesota today, and possibly with the Lakers next season where the superstar derails the team (knowingly and unknowingly by implying his teammates aren't good enough).

Because they did what you call "tanked"(basically just losing games on purpose to get less ping pong balls to help ensure a top pick) and there were "great" players in this draft: Greg Oden and Kevin Durant. We all know that they will both be picked before number 5. The next couple of picks will just be a toss up between several players(Al Horford, Corey Brewer, Brandon Wright, Yi Jianlian, Mike Conley).

We know that its too late to trade up and most likely, Paul Pierce will opt out of his contract after this year and he is their only real quality player that they have.

They tried but their efforts failed, another losing season.

THATS why they're upset

The draft is headlined by Greg Oden and Kevin Durant. Both are franchise players, arguably, and while the talent after them is still pretty decent, picking 3rd, or later obviously, is definitely not as enticing as picking 2nd. Boston should have picked 2nd, and could have gotten Durant, which in their eyes would have brought back the glory days of the '80's and '60's.

This draft is one of the deepest in many years. That being said, there are two players who have a 90% of being superstars: Kevin Durant and Greg Oden. Boston, who was the second-worst team in the league, tanked to get one of them. Ryan Gomes, a Celtics forward, said so himself! Therefore, they were naturally upset to not be able to get one of them. Adding to this is Paul Pierce. He has repeatedly said that he wants another superstar to help him, like Antoine Walker did. Oden and Durant would have given the Celtics this without having to give up any of their young talent. A combination of these has led to the Celtics' whining.
